Cause unions drive mediocrity and aren't cost efficient. The first firm to unionize would be the first to tank.
There's a lot of low performers now who don't pull their weight, a union would exponentially increase the amount of low performers.

a thought many a first year has had coming out of the modern American university system, later (if they are decent at all) to realize it's a terrible idea. Curious though what you think the bad working conditions are? do you not receive fair pay and benefits?

I think TurboTax pays hourly
Here's what I think will happen if accountants form a union, based on what I've seen happen in other unions:
1. Union leadership will consist of the worst Baby Boomers you can possibly imagine, and promotions and raises will be driven by seniority and tenure, rather than competence
2. Cash compensation will decline, and instead your pay will be directed towards pensions for Boomer retirees and near-retirees, platinum health insurance which favors that same group, and campaign contributions towards union friendly politicans
3. The union will insert itself into totally unrelated political issues, like NIMBYing an affordable housing project to save a surface parking lot. I bet you can guess who is parking their cars in that lot for free right now.
I can’t tell if this is satire literally describing the current situation of all of the B4

OP is about to get dragged for this
I’d love to unionize - can’t get fired nor can you be forced to work beyond the bare minimum. Sounds like early retirement

Do you even think before you post? How would partners get yacht money if the staff unionized?? Like it’s so simple and you still couldn’t get there. We work so partners can cash checks. There is no other purpose to our lives
I don’t think I’m unfairly compensated, just sad to see that many in our profession (including myself sometimes) work in excess of 50/60 hours per week. Some folks are putting close to 80/90 and this creates mental health issues, and people don’t have time to focus on their health and families. Everything else I think is okay, just the hours required to grow seem absurd. You talk to most MDs, partners, it seems they work close to 100% of their waking minute. That’s not the life I chose.
