I just created a bowl for attorneys on the autism spectrum/autistic attorneys. I am sharing here in case this might be relevant to anyone here: https://joinfishbowl.com/bowl_xg2f38fuh2 My son is on the spectrum and I realize I likely am, too, after researching more about autism to help him. Feel free to join the bowl if it may be of help to anyone here!

Neither is comfortable. Keep looking, what you want is $800k in the Midwest.
Gotta be a doctor to get that
Culturally their way different so it depends what you want. I will say for condos the standards in Miami are very high, pools, valet, gyms etc. You could pay $2500 in both towns but the building amenities and views in Miami would be far better.
You’re not getting that in either city — but paying 1300 in brickell = pool, valet, modern appliances, nice view, etc
I’d say about $120k.
Comfort depends on your lifestyle and about 4.62 million other variables.

Look at the cost of living calculators online

To D2’s point, if you think the sources that say it’s a 3% diff are more reliable, then the salary won’t make a difference and you can use other factors to decide where to go
It’s the same in those two cities approximatrly
About as comfortable as a whore in church
The cost of living is pretty similar for both cities. I just moved to Austin from Mia

Beyond cost of living, these cities have pretty different mass cultures and demographics. If I’m a prospective homebuyer, it’s easily Austin in terms housing as an investment. Culturally, I speak enough Spanish to not feel completely uncomfortable in Miami, but even Mexican friends spoke to feeling like an outsider while living there sometimes. So there’s that in terms of living vs. visiting.
Watch these housing calculators. Austin housing values have surged over the last year. This tool is like $200k below the actual medium for homes in Travis county. The tool does state 3 bed, 2 bath so maybe the true delta is a bit less compared to all home medians.
But my best investment I’ve ever made has been the housing market in Austin and I think the values will continue to rise.
Austin is up and coming, and relatively unknown as a hot spot. People are referring to it as the SF of Texas, and has a lot going for it in the near and mid term future. Miami on the other hand SUCKS. Highly recommend Austin. Both cities have similar COL.
Miami will be under water in 50 years
I think for both it depends what kind of housing you are looking at/if you plan on buying property, location in/outside of the city, what kind of lifestyle you want to maintain. They certainly have different cultures, so maybe digging and seeing which one resonates with you better could also be a useful exercise (Assuming that you are picking between the two)
I’m not looking to buy just rent. Single 24 yr old so maybe an apt with roommates. I know they’re both pretty diverse so not worried abt culture
Ewww Miami
Austin is lit
Miami should be a HCOL area.
I’ve lived in NYC my entire life and went to school in Boston. Moved to south Florida last year. You save quite a bit on income tax but house prices, property tax, food, are all the same. Miami to Ft Lauderdale you have a very limited amount of space.
