Hey guys! I wanted to share #HoldThePRess which is an initiative, inspired by #PullUpForChange and 600 and Rising, holding the PR industry accountable for recruiting and cultivating Black talent at all levels. The website with more info and to sign on in support is holdthe-press.com and you can sign whether you are Black or an ally. Also, we are planning on presenting the asks and demands to agencies in the coming weeks and will be sharing via the website and on IG: @holdthe_press.

You don’t need a degree in the sciences.
You do need to read and learn the space including understanding the clinical process and approval, laws, compliance requirements, and your respective subject matter.
Do you think it's a comparably tough industry in which to become a strong performer as an "outsider"?
The degree is less about letters after your name and more about qualification of your capabilities: Do you understand healthcare as a business? Can you parse information and data from a clinical trial? Can you quickly get up to speed when you need to understand the science and commercial market around Disease X? A healthcare degree doesn’t directly download that information into your brain, but it does allow to you figure it out easily. It’s an uphill battle without it, but not impossible.
Yeah I'm concerned I would be trailing behind colleagues with backgrounds and end up being a mediocre consultant. Perhaps not worth the risk, even tho I see purpose in the work.

This guy was a healthcare consultant at BCG, left just before partner to co-found a health care startup, after IPO I’m guessing he’s worth a hundred million dollars now. Has a law degree. No bio or medical experience.
No one asks if you need an accounting degree to do financial services consulting, or an engineering degree to do industrials consulting, why does anyone thing you need a bio degree to do healthcare consulting?

Thanks both. Let's say the opportunity comes along to join a life sciences/healthcare team in my firm, would you recommend I take it (considering I'm interested but don't have background)?
