How common is it to renege a job offer for a better opportunity?

Accept the current offer because you can’t rely on an opportunity you haven’t received yet. When the time comes and you do get the Apple offer, thank the other company and say you received an opportunity that you couldn’t pass up.

Don’t worry about burning bridges. The Apple stint will give you prestige on your resume and provide you with remarkable skills.

I agree with this, you have to work with what you know as facts at this point. I routinely have people accept a position, then between that time and on-boarding receive another offer. Sometimes we can renegotiate and sometimes the other opportunity is more in line with what they want!

Like someone else said: the company looks out for itself, you have to look out for you.

Very common? Nah. It's a highly unethical thing to do, and most people understand this. If the ethics of having someone who was going to give you a job close their req, tell the other candidates "no thanks" and then lose our on a hiring opportunity isn't convincing enough, then consider that it's a small world and someone you piss off today may be in a position to hurt your employment in the future.

If you are not really satisfying with the job offer you should be up for about it with the potential employer and try to negotiate or ask for more time.

Tu quoque logical fallacy right there. What others do does not justify any actions you might take.

And you're totally wrong pal. I've had people apply whom I've encountered before. You run into people again, so best to behave ethically

I got a job offer at a design firm in SF as a design #intern for next summer, but cant help but think about getting a better offer later on, considering I was recruited by #apple last year (did not work out as the mail went to junk (I know), but point is I plan to reapply)

Apple dont post their internships till January.

I’m not as excited about the company, but with layoffs and tech being down overall, I’m leaning to accepting it, then possibly reneging the offer if I did get Apple in January. Any advice?

Pretty common in this atmosphere

Very common

👀 To my fellow Floridians,

I’m currently in the later rounds of interviewing for a company called LSQ, as a new grad, for a Jr. UX Designer role. The company seems solid; smaller, but good culture.

My only hesitation leading into what will inevitably be the offer/negotiation part of the process, is that they’ve mentioned a few times that their salary range is $60k-70k. This feels a bit low, given my existing experience, development skills, & award winning projects.

Any insights? Suggestions?

PMs, what's a good book about coding? Left analytics to do a CS degree to better understand engineering before moving to product side. Have to do a book report for a SWE class, can propose a book.

Two on my shelf I've been putting off anyway are The DevOps Handbook (writing style is 💤) and Clean Code (lol, but maybe there's more appropriate). Wondering what the community would recommend, maybe something more release process focused? Can't go full product focused cause it's still a SWE class.

Hi Bowl . I'm contemplating an offer from Unity in Canada. Anyone has any insights into how the company is,its WLb? Future etc. Pay seem to be better compared from where I'm today with thr RSU component

Hey folks. 3 YOE, working in tech at a great company, and making 135K TC in Austin.

Have an admit at Columbia and received 30K in aid each year, so I anticipate paying 110K in tuition. With cost of living in upper Manhattan, estimating an additional 35K each year, so 180K total cost.

I want to stay in tech post MBA, but explore faang companies and product roles. Is this worth the cost? I figure I could make a jump in comp at least?

There’s been a lot of hate for Facebook across this app recently, so I just want to say: as someone going through the recruiting process at Facebook right now, everyone I meet is so incredibly nice, and it’s the smoothest and most supportive recruiting process I have ever had. I originally got into it so that I could have an offer to leverage for negotiations with other companies, but y’all are making me want to work here! I’m going to be pretty sad if I end up getting rejected.

I am pissed off. All companies I am going for interviews for director role are asking for having the exact experience and be hands on at the code level.

I am not interested to code any more code. I am done with this.
