How competitive is PE really? Like especially for middle market, is it that impossible to break into? It seems like it just takes a bit of work.

It all depends on your background. Go to Wharton and work at Goldman? Shouldn't be too bad. Go to university of Timbuktu and work at Joe Carter CPA? GOOD LUCK!

like

I got in from Timbuktu and joe carter cpa, but it’s middle market and certainly wasn’t easy...

Don’t have first hand experience, but have heard friends it’s akin to the ivys insanely difficult to get into, but once your in its smooth sailing

Smooth sailing....right...

Let’s just say to make principal/MD and have carry (where the big $ is) - it is ver very hard. Harder than just getting into the door. Not like climbing the ranks at a consulting firm where there is always attrition at all levels

I recently interviewed for a position that was below my salary requirements so the interviewer forwarded me a role that is inline with salary but quite a bit outside of my skill set (and interest, tbh). How do I politely reject the opportunity while keeping the door open to other roles more closely aligned with my career goals/interests?

Sharing my thoughts !!

In November 2021, i was working in Tcs at a package of 4.1 on Mainframes. I was not happy at all with my career. Learnt a new technology(Cloud). Gave interviews, rejected by few companies including Deloitte. Kept going..
Joined Accenture as a Cloud Engineer. In December 2022, I will be earning a package of 12. Got one certification, aiming for 2nd one. All this within a span of 12 months. These are brilliant times in tech. Keep hustling. Success will be yours.

My friends OTOH have pursued hands on opportunities as they believe it will help them connect what they learned in theory through the certs. I believe at this stage in our careers, this type of granular/hands on experience is not entirely needed as long as we have an understanding of the services at a high level. I wanted to get your opinion if I was in the wrong with this thinking?

I’m just curious — I’m still an early career professional and was looking into university career programs for potential development within a financial company I work for. I spoke to a recruiter who said they are typically geared towards recent graduates.

Are there any types of programs out there that may also consider other individuals seeking to develop their careers?

Anyone regret going into data and analytics? Sometimes I feel like I'm too dumb for it. I don't have a statistics background to really take things to the next level, and my colleagues don't have the hours to help me. My technical skills are OK, but nothing to shout at, especially when I don't really have the interest to learn. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and steer my career to a boring client-side position instead.
