How did those with kids agree on baby names. The name my wife wants for our child is my best friends ex girlfriends name (bad breakup about 2 years ago). I can't see the name without thinking of this horrible person bc it's not that common of a name. Am I unreasonable for veto'ing this name?

There are soooo many names that I think it’s unreasonable to settle on one that you aren’t both happy with.

like

This. That’s it. I would never ask my husband to agree to the above situation. Move on and find a new name.

Try the Baby Names app- it’s basically Tinder for baby names. You and your wife would each swipe left or right on a name and then your matches go on a list.

Yeah I think I saw one once named Kinder 😂😂

If it was a boy, I got to choose first name but had to be approved by my wife, it it was a girl, vice versa. Both our parents are English second language so it also had to be easy enough to pronounce.

like

Yes you’re being unreasonable. You won’t even remember your “best friend’s ex girlfriend” in two years but your baby will have this name forever. Get over it 👍 My wife and I had a whiteboard where we listed out like 7-8 top names, then middle names we wanted from our own family histories. Having everything out on a board you saw every day for months helped narrow it down, eventually we agreed to start scratching ones off and ended up with the most loved ones on each side. Then figured out ok let’s do this first name from here and this middle name from here, etc. ❤️

We each made a list of names and did some self editing and ordering. Then we compared lists and crossed off ones we didn't like and whittled it down to two or three be names. Her brothers ex gf made it all the way to the final cut down at the hospital.

This must be first baby LOL My husband and I had a similar issue with our first. Every name I liked he said he had a cousin with that name (and I was like you have 1000 cousins so 🤷🏻‍♀️) and every name he liked I said I went to high school with somebody with that name and hated them (we had our first when I was 22 so not long after HS). We couldn’t decide and then after I was in labor for 5 says he said I could name the baby whatever I wanted. 😂

Smart man.

I’ve had a name for my future daughter picked out forever (like since I was a little kid). Luckily my husband also loved it. But I would be pretty bummed if my husband vetoed it because of his best friends ex girlfriend. That being said if she isn’t that passionate on the name and she just scrolled across it recently and likes it then absolutely she should move onto the next. Since I suggested the name of our first kid, I let my husband suggest the name of our second. Luckily I like his pick so no drama. Good luck!

As soon as you give your kid the name, the other person won’t even matter.

I am 35 years old, and I threw my desktop keyboard at my monitor and broke both. I did this because I was playing a videogame and I didnt finish the level I needed to in the correct amount of time. I did it because I got mad other people can finish the level so easily but I cant seem to. I never feel good enough, and I think it stems from my father for 18 years telling me I am never good enough. Now I never know if I see myself as unworthy because its true or im conditioned to believe it.
