How did yall go about finding your place in HR? Recruiting has been OK but it’s just not my thing. looking to see what transferable skills I’ve obtained that will allow me to move about and hear from others who have hopped around.

I struggled to my find my place as well and love recruiting! What attracted you to HR in the first place? You have so many options in HR. What is your favorite part of the job? Least favorite? I did an HR Generalist course and that helped me hone in on exactly what I wanted to do.

Where did you do your course?

I started as a HR Generalist 20+ years ago and transitioned to a role in HR Learning and Development in the same company when they created a L&D division. I never looked back learned about L&D, developed as a SME who could design, develop and facilitate training and after 10+ years transitioned to Talent Management where I do less facilitation and more Learning and Development program management. I did a bit of recruiting in my HR Generalist years. I liked it but did not love it.

I work in a recruitment agency and slowly picked up pieces of the HR team’s work. When an opportunity arose I took a junior team member’s place and rose. It’s been 3 years since I joined the company and now I lead on HR strategy. They’ve even paid for my Level 5 CIPD which is the UK HR qualification.

Being a generalist is a good way to position yourself for pivots. My next role will be HRBP if not management, I've been a generalist for over five years. I'm very much over being stretched in 20 different directions and I prefer performance management and learning management.

I never wanted to go into HR so I started out as a recruitment marketing specialist and I’m pivoting into employer branding.

HR is not just about recruitment. you can be assigned in policies, payroll and employee records. If recruitment is not your thing, you can always bring it up to your manager so he can pull you out and put you in another department.

I’m analytical by nature and can think outside the box a little. So I find the analytic dude of HR us my go to

I started n employee benefits then moved to payroll and time and leave. I’m n the process now of being crossed trained n labor relations. U can move all over until you find what u like

Been in HR almost 17 years now and have done EVERYTHING although my specialty lied with benefits and leaves, hated recruitment (Funny enough - loved position control/management). I left my old toxic job which has allowed me to explore what I actually LIKE as opposed to just what I know and find that my HR heart belongs in HRIS.

I was working on a function app based on Azure. I am facing an issue while run/test code in function app: internal server error 500. When I checked the logs, it showed Rpc Exception for Microsoft Azure Webjobs Script Workers. Not sure how to make the function app work again. I’m curious, I Just had a Canadian company reach out for a remote recruiter role. Upon asking them for their benefits package specially since they have no physical presence in the US, I was told they don’t share that unless they are closer to making an offer.

I’m currently choosing between 2 companies. 1 role is for hr shared services and another for HR sourcing associate( mostly admin work and my team would be based in the US) which role has more growth? I have a manager who doesn’t seem to like me very much. Talks to me in a super condescending tone like I wasn’t an experienced hire & know what I’m doing. He will flat out ignore me even on calls when I say hi or good morning.
I’m not sure if it’s because he’s “old school” but once had other team mates in his office (all male) for lunch and didn’t invite me (the only female on this team). I thought I had a super progressive team but every day is telling me that’s not the case.

I work for a general agency and it's very taxing - we deal with several carriers a day and do benefits enrollments, terms, you name it for brokers that sign up to work with us.

I tried applying for about 100 different roles - (about 6 within the company) and they were all rejected. I've been with the company almost 3 years at this point and was thinking about trying to be a benefits admin or hr generalist but it doesn't seem to be a viable option. Any advice or even company recommendations?
