Did not grow up in a household where there was too many importance given to investing. Parents had some retirement savings. Read up on my own - not a finance background. But managing my own finances and investment. At the end of the day, you just need a logical mind and a drive to expand your wealth.
M1 I am a newbie, no finance background and trying to learn on my own...books, podcast etc but it is very confusing. Some days I think I got it and some days I am lost. Any suggestions? Can you share how you gained your knowledge? Thanks
Grew up in a household that had no $$$ to invest but was told from an early age that you need to have your money make money to get ahead so I started investing in the market as soon as I had some.

your experiences could help with the anxiety. Yknow, to just see that it’s doable from people that don’t seem to have unrealistic lives.
I grew up in a house where we were very open about money and there was a lot of talk about investing, taxes, real estate, bonds, etc and the relative benefits and detriments of them. I saw it as just another part of being an adult, so was really surprised when I grew up and saw how relatively clueless most of my friends were.
I didn’t grow up in a household with a investing mindset. However, I am Indian. So, the idea of savings was instilled in me from a very early stage. Parents mostly saved money in Fixed deposits.
I felt a bit dumbfounded when I started investing. I started with stocks and lost some money. Then I decided to to understand how markets work and that opened a Pandora’s box for me. Fast forward to a few year, I have certain amount of risk appetite and all my investments are paying off well. Also, reading about this is something I truly enjoy.
I grew up with no means or direction on how to invest. Paid my way through college with grants and loans. Lived a life without debt, other then my mortgage, which I have been steadily paying down principle. Thought it better to save thousands of dollars in interest, (by paying down principle), instead of investing along side a mortgage.
Only now, years later can I invest and really max out the 401K. Will benefit in five years when the mortgage is paid. Will invest in income producing properties. As long as there is a steady influx of money coming in post retirement, via rental income, 401K, pension etc... that is the plan
I felt very intimidated by the stock market. So I read some books on it. There is plenty of free info out there as well on the web.
Keep your unsecured debt low
-best of luck to you.
