How did you tell your boss you were pregnant? (What info did you give? How far along were you?) How did the conversation go?

I'm at 19 weeks and am waiting another month for pay and promotion discussions to be finalized.

Will probably just be booking a 15 minute "touch base" call with my Partner and saying "Wanted to let you know I'm pregnant and will be taking Mat leave starting in November"

On both, I was just promoted in March. My conversation went much the same.

I told my SM about two weeks ago (15 weeks). Mainly because I’m on a long term project and my role goes until my due date so there was nothing to really hide. If I was rolling off anytime soon I would have held off until I got a new role.

I haven’t been at the market for 8 years, and I am struggling with bragging a lot. I don’t even know where it comes from but I downplay my achievements a lot. I practice Buddhism and bragging is not the best trait for a Buddhist for sure. But downplaying is not a Buddhist trait too.
So I guess the question here is how to reframe bragging into something more acceptable...

I visited a friends that has a 1 year old baby. She asked me if I wanted to get a dog, and then asked me if I wanted to get a plant 😂. She said it was a good way to start carrying for something else and get experience for the future. I think this is hillarious I don’t see how a dog or a plant will fulfill my life. 😂

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.

Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??

Has anyone started a new job right before going on maternity leave? Is it realistic to have a decent WLB if you’re a parent and working in MBB/T2 in Dubai? Is it guaranteed that you’d be travelling Monday-Thursday? Our baby is due soon so we’ve made the decision that we will only have visits from vaccinated family members (not realizing it would be an issue) only to find out that my Dad will never be getting vaccinated, planned to lie about it AND asked other family members lie to us about his vaccination status too… when we found out and asked him about it, he started to FREAK out. Now I’m questioning if we’re being unreasonable… how have you guys been handling unvaccinated people meeting your newborns??

What the hell do you get male coworkers for office holiday gifts? They're fine guys and we have a great team but I wouldn't say I know them well enough to pick out individual relevant gifts for each of them. I was thinking like 5ths of whiskey & some chocolate? Or homemade cookies or something? Please give me some good ideas

If buy the partners you work with regularly a holiday gift, how much do you spend? Usually I get baked goods or food items which you can’t tell the actual amount spent on. This year, though, I’d like to support local restaurants by encouraging people to order takeout—hence, giving gift cards.

How much is appropriate for a restaurant gift card from an associate to a partner?

Company culture is awesome loving but manager attitude is careless and micro management.

Is it a red flag as a candidate to ask if a company offers maternity leave? I was recently laid off, so I wasn't expecting to lose my job. We're planning on trying for a baby in the next year or so, so it's really important to me that my next job offers paid maternity leave.

The issue is that it's so rarely advertised on company web sites, but ultimately better maternity leave would sway my decision for a job. Is there a way to ask this tactfully? Or without raising red flags?

My boss asked me to take care of some of the details of a project for her—the stuff that isn't really my area of expertise. And now I feel like a shirker because I haven't been able to finish them yet.

They’re 4 and 7 for reference. Please constructive responses only. Thank you!

ladies, seriously thinking about renting a place for a month and just working from there to change scenery. Any places you would recommend? i love the outdoors but honestly a little chickened out to venture out to the middle of the woods/nowhere completely alone. Cities themselves are out of the question. My husband, who had a successful career but is not yet 40, wants to retire and look after our kids while actively investing our money. I enjoy consulting and will gladly keep working. We also have a good amount of savings, mostly fueled by our frugality during his peak earning years. I feel like I need to support my husband’s dreams while negotiating clear terms. Has anybody been down a similar path and have advice?

Does it bother you when someone you care about won't let you treat them (like on special occasions such as birthdays and stuff)? I don't know why it's upsetting me so much, and I'm trying to figure out what the root of my issue is. I'm getting overly emotional about it. It makes me feel like I'm making it about me vs. them, which is not what I want to do at all. On the contrary, I want them to enjoy whatever I treat them to, but this is all backfiring because I can't control my emotions.

Ladies, I’m considering getting a double helix piercing. Most ppl I’ve mentioned it to are super pro, but I am hesitating in case the piercings would be viewed as unprofessional (even if I wear fancy diamond hoops or studs in them). What are your thoughts? FWIW I have 2 lobe piercings on both sides.
