It depends entirely on the company. Some have you litigate directly and account for time and it’s essentially the same. Some are basically supervising outside counsel.

I’m in house in a litigation role. I interviewed at places where it was just like private practice in that the in house lawyers litigated their own cases and those roles had the highest turnover; the lawyers also seemed miserable. All of the expectations of private practice without the firm support. My role now is supervising outside counsel, strategizing, participating in depo prep and discovery, and sometimes handling small issues that are unlikely to go anywhere.

I handle litigation for my company; mostly employment and products liability. We have outside counsel handling the litigation and I just manage and work on strategy. I have a lot of responsibility around discovery, especially with the products litigation.

Hello!
I recently had multiple interviews at a law firm. These interviews were conducted by a recruiter, a parter, and a manager at the firm. As I was doing these interviews, the other two interviews that I have done were for a different role than I originally applied for. I was wondering if this is a good thing or bad thing.

My other question is "What is your opinion on thank you email after the interviews? Should I send a thank you email?"

Thank you so much in advance!

My CEO often asks questions or for advice about strategy that stumps even the partners at the prestigious law firm that we use, and then acts like we’re all dumb. Alot of it comes from Twitter posts and various billionaires and is communicated as “why can’t we do that” while ignoring all sorts of relevant context. We do our best to be creative and deliver, but sometimes it seems an impossible task.
