How difficult to switch from growth investing to mid market buyout as a VP?

My guess is toughest part to pick up is deal structuring (leverage, debt, etc.)

Definitely doable, know a guy who went from a growth shop like Spectrum/Great Hill to an Advent/TPG type shop (I know these are more on the UMM/MF side but it shows you can transition from growth to buyout.

Probably not too difficult depending on the strategy and the sooner the move, the easier

I don't think it's very difficult. Would help if you had any referrals.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Joined consulting post-MBA, mostly worked in Bain PEG, including a few value creation projects, mostly growth stage. I love this and want to do it as a job all the time. Currently plan to stay in PEG forever, but sometimes I think I might like to be an operating partner in a smallish growth fund (no interest in deal team). Are lateral options down the track (don't want to start as assoc again) possible, and if so how? Am female if relevant - pre-MBA hard technical & middle-mgmt exp in software

So I was talking to an old colleague who offered to recommend me to his MD for a lateral move into the group at AVP. He even asked me, are you absolutely sure you will be ok with a lateral move? And I said yes, as long as the MD agrees to make me a VP conditional on my performance in one year. I agreed because I am changing countries (not in NA). But, just given how much work experience I have (15 years sell and buy side), I want to tell my colleague that I want VP now. How to phrase this best?

Curious about what’s a better way to develop skills as an investor long term: sourcing for deals and trying to win deals and clients for your firm which builds relationships and your soft skills or doing deep due diligence with a firm and looking at everything from financials to legal documents?

I’m really asking about GE vs PE this question but wanted to focus on these two skill sets as I believe they make up the bulk of a junior person’s experience in either field. Open to your thoughts

Anyone have any insights into ICONIQ (hours, culture, comp, etc.)? Have heard mixed reviews so far - specifically that new joiners today have less runway (more of a pyramid today while the folks who joined 5-10 years ago had faster paths to MD / Partner and are sitting pretty). I’ve been hearing that comp is decent (i.e., I did see on a H1B salary database that base for a PE senior associate is $175K, but who knows what cash bonus / carry looks like). No datapoints on culture yet

Poll for the bowl - what do you perceive to be the split at the associate level of ex-consulting vs. ex-IB? Also, do you perceive one background to have an advantage when it comes to promotions (e.g. it’s a 50/50 split at the associate level, but changes to 75/25 split at VP+ levels)?

I realize either job out of UG is a legitimate path into PE, just curious to hear thoughts on any edge that might exist there.

For a senior role (Principal, MD) when do firms typically do reference checks-Before or after extending an offer? In conversations with a PE firm and it’s going well. The founding partner said during the in-person meeting they really like me, have gotten positive feedback from every partner, and see a good cultural fit. Wonder if this means they’re close to extending an offer or is this typical to say and could still lead to no offer

Can I say, “hey, saw that you’re connected with this fund. I’d love an intro”
