How do exit opportunities compare at Principal vs. senior manager?

I'm in the principal consideration process now, and I enjoy the job - but the hours and travel are really tough on my wife and my health.

Should I be looking for an out? Or should I be trying to figure out how I can turn principal into more of a 9-5?
