Tell them to leave immediately. PIP is something that is on record for the existing company, no one else. So instead of trying your luck with current company rather quit and build a career some place else. Cos current company has pretty much shut its doors for you.
I have seen few persons in past , they were moved to PIP. They did their level best, but their RM already made perception.. I completely agree with your rply, instead of focusing to convince your RM, move out form that company and start new journey with past learning.
More of confident level boost and assign him some challenging task and mentor him and handhold him to complete it. EOD lead him towards success path

I have seen people cleared pip and working as usual with better effort.
If this this is Amazon PIP, then nothing can be done. Anyway, the person on PIP would be let go and they wouldn’t be interested in working.
