I work at Northside and nurses have full sleeves and colored hair! They’re so short on staff right now they could care less (I think)
My hospital removed policy against colored hair. Mine is purple. No one cares. Patients have not said anything negative about it and many of my seniors are coming in with fun hair too.
Dont think anyone ever cares. If it really is interesting, you may get some comments from patients but I doubt anyone will say anything at work.
I’m a physician and I occasionally get the urge to have pink highlights in my blond hair. Pts actually usually enjoy it!
Most people don’t care. Except old ladies. They will judge you 100% and tell all their friends.
Our Eco officer who does a part of orientation has bright green hair. The policy says they care but practice doesn’t.
If your hair is dyed to a unique or bright colour, it attracts attention everywhere. However, stereotyping does happen. I have seen people being treated as less responsible for having tattoos or brightly coloured hair.
I have seen the discrimination myself. If were interviewing for a much wanted placement, I personally would braid my hair or use a temporary natural coloring shampoo or rinse. Tattoos can be covered with a long sleeve Under Armour cooling shirt.
After getting to your position see what the vibe is there. Always read the room.
East coast hospital systems I was told I needed to have “natural” hair color (brown black blonde red). West coast hospital systems, they don’t really care. I’ve walked in with pink hair and they were fine with it.
Basically, it depends on company policy. I've worked in hospitals that allow it, and some that don't. I usually just ask someone who works there, ask in the job interview, read the handbook.
Honestly as long as you have a scrub Cao you're good
They do not care. Healthcare is so short staffed in general as long as the person is qualified and has the knowledge and beside manner i wouldn't care either!
I cat say definitely that I don’t know an absolute answer but in most every industry I see women with variation of hair colors ( not all at one time)
And women with visible tattoos. It seems as long still see some skin color and are not covered in tattoos it is more accepted.
But, I can tell you for sure from what I’ve seen in
NC you can have any hair color, tattoos all over and visible and any and everything your face pierced and you n get a job at Walgreens and CVS pharmacies. It’s really distracting at that quantity!
It’s all up to the hospitals. Most are FINALLY okay with that and tattoos. Others are lagging!
