Apply to anything IP/Pharma/Bio tech. Then sell yourself on why litigation is more useful background to help with transactional day to day.

Make a point to take vacation in cities where your biggest clients are. While there, reach out to them and ask for coffee/lunch/facetime. Meet with a many people as you can. With only 2 years, you will definitely need to leverage connections. The doors to your first transition tend to start opening around 4-5 years, without an"in."

Any thoughts on possible career paths that would combine my experience in accounting with a more socially fulfilling job?

Whoever said employers don’t care about grades and transcripts after your first job was a liar. Every lateral position that I’ve applied to as a 3rd year has requested transcripts. Why do we lie and tell grads that employers don’t check transcripts when they do. My coworker, a 5th yr, had to submit his transcripts also to lateral job. Side note - it speaks volume when multiple associates are trying to lateral at the same time

My company historically paid base comp and bonus based on years out of law school. Level 1 is 1-9, and Level 2 is 10+. Diff if $50k+, easily. My team’s work isn’t distributed any differently based on seniority, and we’re all doing the same subject matter. We have a new GC changing it so bonus can be higher (but not lower) if you take on more work.

Do you think this is a fair system? Is it right to push for equal comp, especially given that there’s a new reward system for doing more work?

I’m currently at a medium sized tech startup. I was interviewing for a role that would be a bump in pay and title at a multinational public F50 company. At first, the hiring manager and head of legal were very complementary about my experience. Almost too much so. After a week of interviews with the team (softball-esq), I was informed that if I wanted to join, they would bring me on at a lower title. I’m not sure about comp yet. But if comp is still an increase + experience at a public..

I a mid-level litigator and have an offer at a FAANG, however, I still have roughly $230,000 in student debt. If I can delay my start until June, I will receive the newest round of special bonuses and can make a lump sum payment of ~$50,000 (all principal with the 0%). If I decline the offer and stay with my firm, I can make another $50,000 payment at the end of the year. I ultimately want to be in house, preferably in tech. Would I be crazy to decline to use the bonuses to make big chunk pmnts?

Does anyone know if you have to negotiate an automatic 3-4% increase in salary every year for inflation, etc. when getting an in-house position? Or is that fairly standard for most companies and HR just handles that internally at the start of every year?
