Rest assured that whatever they assigned you probably isn’t very important or else your manager would schedule check ins to ensure the work gets done timely. It’s most likely a misunderstanding from your manager on what’s necessary to complete. Going forward you should scope out the task at hand and gain a general understanding of what’s required to complete the task and an estimate of timing. This will be difficult until you get a bit more experience.
The problem is that I did and have asked for resources and examples. Unfortunately no one was willing to actually sit down and go through what I needed help with until hours before the deck was due. And then turned out I had to redo a bunch of slides when I had asked for support all along

1. Seems like they're making reasonable requests, cool it
2. How does a manager following up on gaining routine access to a company system translate to you being a failure?

That's fair to stress about what they're thinking but even in this short conversation, it seems like your managers lack some social competence if they're only talking to you when they need something.
I wouldn't go as far to say that's necessarily poor leadership on their part, but I'd argue that if they're only reaching out when they need something rather than making casual conversation or just opening themselves up for questions / discussion, that's a fault of theirs. It's not a reflection of you.
You're new. You'll figure it out then move into a new role / position / company and be new all over again and the cycle will repeat. If your managers expect a new finance associate to know everything and won't provide mentorship, that's their failure for not investing in development. Again, not a reflection of you.
