I’ve been using google docs/slides they all collectively log in to and add info, answers, ideas etc. they’ve done a really good job. I made a bunch of templates and then for each assignment I just choose which template works best. It’s been really handy. I just drop the link in the chat and they jump in and answer.

I found Near pod to work well.

I plan to integrate Nearpod slides in my Google slides to require different kinds of interactions. There are many to choose formats to use and then 1000s in the Nearpod library to copy and/or adapt.

It is awesome.

I am finding that if I am teaching them like they were in my classroom, having fun, natural conversation, doing the writing on the board as if they’re in my room, pulling popsicle sticks with their names on them , instead of all of the technology and Fufu stuff that’s out there ...I can’t get rid of my students

Find a way to focus EVERY lesson on building relationships with them. That is always the answer for engagement. After class write down and STUDY everything that you learn about them. Keep detailed notes when you make individual contacts.

Try Hyperdoc to post assignment ! Everything in one place

Peardeck is pretty good for keeping them engaged and accountable table and you can read their answers of a spreadsheet which makes grading faaaaast.

Try formative polls on Zoom that will engage them to demonstrate their progress. Have them review answers in zoom breakout rooms that you can bounce in and out of to rate how they are discussing with peers. You can also do some evaluation Socratic seminar that they know you will be grading them on.

I did so last year with a lot of fun music videos and show and tells and being silly

I'd start the year really taking the time to figure out what they're into and what makes them tick. I know that when we start discussing certain topics, my students can't help but participate. they LOVE to debate. it times time to feel comfortable with each other and online, that will take even more time

Do polls in zoom

I have learned more though having my kids use google forms and different interactive games (I play them too) than I have just opening up the conversation.

Google slides are awesome. There are several groups on Facebook who have free, already made resources

Google Choice Boards

Look at Nearpod !

I make Kahoot games with vocabulary that we are studying and they love that. I win when everyone (or nearly everyone) gets the right answer to a question.

Gimkit let's them study vocabulary. The live games, where they can get powerups and take points away from one another leads to fun conversation! They love the platform in general.

We cane up with virtual nicknames

Weekly competition worked for me..... i even added in amazon gift cards
