Strategy is notoriously difficult. Usually only take people from target undergrads or MBAs.
A lot of positivity that I needed on a Monday morning in here. I think at the least I’ll transfer/hop firms into advisory, plenty of options for that right now, especially in NYC/NJ area. Thanks again!
Not sure who told you that about deals, but if you want to get into strategy that’s definitely where I would go if I were you
Forgot to mention this on my other comment. Whoever gave you that impression about deals was misinformed, are there accounting heavy projects, yes. Is that all you’re ever going to do, no. There’s way to much deal flow right now that you won’t get more exposure on in transaction based projects like IPOs and SPACs. It’s a good pívot to get consulting based experience as well.
If you’re trying for strategy/management consulting, then the most likely route would be to go to a top mba out of your current audit role. I haven’t seen this done from tas or other accounting advisory type functions. The only person in my tas group that did this was after they got a M7 mba.
I agree that you have a better shot from advisory, but audit/tax still gets people into top programs.
