Can this week please just end?
I’m about to start an internship at IBM for UX Research. I’m super excited about it, and was wondering if anyone could tell me about the design culture there or how the company is for designers? So far online I’ve only heard about the company from consultants or software engineers. For more reference I’ll be working in Austin.

Would say that a relevant role / relevant activities on the side in your current role would probably provide much better returns than a masters, coursework, or any books.
Imo, in terms of usefulness with this kind of work it goes:
job experience > side project experience > any type of coursework / schooling
Coursework / schooling is useful for getting your resume noticed if you have no work experience but if you're already a PM I'm thinking you already have a leg up in getting the first call / interview. After the first call / interview, all thats gonna matter is whether you can get past their series of tests and whether you communicate well with the team.
On the flip side, what would you recommend for a TL looking to transition more into TPM type roles?
Got it that’s helpful! I spent a year at MBB and jumped just to get the Product Manager title. But now it’s been a few months I feel it’s a bad fit. So 1.5 YOE total, 3 months in PM
Do you want to be a PM working on an ML/AI product? Or and out and out DS?
Best way is to try and get some projects at work that leverage ML/AI. If you can’t do that, then try and do some side projects by yourself but you’ll have to know how to code for that
If you are an experienced PM and good at data stuff, then you can always land a job for a product that does ML, don’t think they all require lots of experience in it (probs a nice to have)
AWS ML cert?
Any opportunities to suggest and lead ML/AI features/reports/etc.? We have an internal ML team bootstrapping this, and it's very much prototyping, testing the market
I’m in similar boat, currently working as a Product Manager (non-tech) but want to become a tech PM.
So is there any certifications which could help me ?
What do you mean by ROI? Are u interested in ML only for the money? I would suggest with Andrew ng machine learning course for a start. Make sure you understand the concepts behind. Then, I suggest you take machine learning certification from Google cloud.
ROI doesn’t have to be money. It can be value, brand, time, anything.
No, it’s not the money. I’d rather not compromise on the path now for short term gains, and instead focus on the best path forward for improving my career prospects whatever that may be. But what is that is the question.
