It’s all true
If what people are saying bother you I’m assuming there’s a shred of belief at the very least in that train of thought. As the others have said on this thread consulting is a means to and end so if you can find a better way for you to live a happy life I’d recommend doing so and if not simply block out the noise.
Unfortunately it is all true. You have to love what you do and be able to emotionally deal with the pressure to. Its not an easy profession. Constant stress and doesn't matter about yesterday only today mentality makes job insecurities real and constant.
Another cynical comment I commonly hear is how it’s bad to be a wage slave and how great it is to work for yourself without a boss. Seems to be tied with the “hustle” and “entrepreneur” culture.
That’s what I want to think but I feel like I’m getting gaslighted with negativity. And it’s making me question my own thoughts. And I’m not sure how to handle it
Try to protect your energy by not engaging in the negativity. There are good and bad days as in any job. It’s fine to vent when you are having a rough day but some people think it’s part of the job desc to complain daily.
I personally find it very formative and have enjoyed the content on most of my projects.
Why care what others think? Extrapolate the validity of their comments and move on.
Probably some truth to what they’re saying even if they’re assholes.
All of those things would just make me laugh. I make work in consulting because it pays decently well so I can actually afford the other things I enjoy in life. It's none of anyone else's business.
But if you find them demeaning, it's more a reflection of your point than their IMO.
It is true, but the thing is, if it's not true FOR YOU, then it doesn't matter what another person says. If you find genuine meaning in it, then that is what counts.
