Is there a Toastmasters in your area?

I’ve always struggled with this too. 10+ years in! Oddly enough, coaching youth sports helped me overcome a lot of my confidence issues with it. For me speaking to 40-50 junior high kids was a great way to practice my speaking skills. Much easier than speaking to a room of potential investors or business people!

I used to (and sometimes still will) write my presentation down word for word. Then rehearse it over and over again until it became natural. It allowed me to relax a little and not be so nervous because I didn’t worry about what I was going to say. Then the more presentations you do the easier it gets and the more natural you become. Also because you’ve memorized so many presentations over the years, you can pull from and pick and choose pieces or parts of prior presentations and look and sound polished. On another note, I’ve heard good things about the Toastmasters clubs

Has anyone here bought new build townhouse before? I'm about to close in 2 weeks and the contract states that nothing can delay or stop the closing even if something needs repair. If something needs repair, they will fix it while we're living there. And we have warranty for everything for a year. So my question is, should I just save money and have an house inspector come until 3 months before the year is up?

What's the most effective way for a small RIA to recruit FAs who have a few years experience, want to break away from large/corporate firms? I'm a $70M fee-only (commissions for insurance) independent RIA with a generous comp schedule that enables FAs to own their own book while they grow. As the owner, my focus is to help FAs succeed; as a firm, our focus is on client service and helping them succeed. I can afford a small salary, but not benefits. I'm especially interested in female FAs.

Pros to EJ: Have my own office, a year or two away from partnership, great office setting and client satisfaction.

Pros to Merrill: Bump in compensation, additional tools and services w banking, ability to take over assets.
