I’m regularly told that they’re exceeding expectations but then they get reviews that say they’re meeting expectations on a team full of people that do way less than they do? I’ve actually been told that if there was something between meets and exceeds…I’d get that…but there not, so I get the same average performer raise, recognition, etc.

Recently moved in-house and struggling with how to document my contributions (keep a “brag list” if you will) for purposes of review season and eventual bonus/promotion/raise discussions. At a firm it was fairly easy to point to high billables, high profile deals, praise from particular partners or clients. Now I’m struggling because my work is so….day to day. Mostly negotiating typical sales contracts. Very few opportunities for visibility or high profile contributions if that makes sense.

BACKGROUND: I transitioned from medical copy editing (7 years) to medical content/news writing (2 years) to pharma/medical copywriting (1.5 years). I'm currently a senior copywriter for FCB working on a new drug launch. I've created the Day 0 splash page (US), brand style guide (global), HCP and patient Day 1 & Day 14 emails (US), and an HCP Thought Leader Liaison slide deck. My journey has been non-traditional so I don't have a book per se.

+/– 5k is not make or break. I would wait until the official review cycle, and ask for above market value then, if you think you’re doing a great job.
It is too soon. You can ask and will probably get it, but it’ll look bad and cause problems and you’ll miss getting a bump next cycle.
I was in this same position. I never got my 90 days review which I was told was a good thing (no complaints). After 6 months, I got a new creative director and wanted a pay/title bump but my supervisor today me I shouldn’t ask our new boss and to wait another 6 months. Eleven months later I got that pay/title bump. :/
I did end up getting my 90 day review and it went super super well. I’m thinking I’ll hold off and just feel it out from here.
I think have some leverage to ask for a raise in the near future. I’m a good member of the team, I know my superiors like me and appreciate my work and attitude. I’m on a launch brand (pharma) and have been helping with new biz pitches. I’m up for a 90 day review soon (despite being past the 90 days)
This isn’t something I would mention if asking but my copy partner who is on the same level as me and has the same amount of experience is making 5k more than me and negotiated for 3 more PTO days
How do I know if It’s a good idea to ask? How soon is too soon?
