How do I launch an insurance agency?
Context: I just started a sales role 3 months ago
State Farm. It’s my first time ever doing sales. Huge success so far, (nothing extravagant yet), but it’s only been 3 months. I’m currently selling 50+ policies a month.

I know sales isn’t everything it takes to start an Agency. Where should I try to pursue growth before starting an agency?
Follow Up Question: Is my boss hyping me up or is 50+ policies a month pretty good?

I’ve worked at State Farm coming up on 4 years at the end of this month. Depending on where you’re located 50 apps a month could be a lot, it just depends on how populated your area is. Are you wanting to start your own SF office? To do that there’s an Agent Aspirant program you have to get accepted into.

it also depends on what those policies are. the size of 50 personal home and auto policies looks different than 50 business owners policies

I’ve been with Farmers Insurance for over 13 years and am a District Manager. I was on the agency side for a couple of years prior to that. Selling 50 policies a month is really solid even for a tenured team member of an agency.

I’m in Texas and I know every market is different and so is every company but at Farmers there is a program built for someone like you that is an aspiring agency owner.

You would work doing sales in a “mentor” agency and after you hit sales goals and complete training you will have the ability to start your own agency.

So I’m in a pickle. I’m 26, been in car sales for 6 years, and have no college under my belt. I want to get out of the car business but do not know what to transition to especially with my lack of experience and making 100k a year. I can’t seem to find a solid exit strategy. Thoughts?

What is the most outlandish thing you’ve heard someone do that gets them fired? Let someone go because they weren’t performing AND found out that a few weeks before (while they were being coached) they had lied saying a family member died and needed some time away, but instead took a 7 day trip overseas for the client’s competitor!! The second part didn’t change anything, but so unbelievable.

I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

If you’re a manager and you see an employee that wants to branch out into a different department, why would you keep them boxed in for 2+ years?

Are there some background mechanics that I’m missing?
