How do I make sure my inferiority complex doesn’t ruin my relationship with my SO?

In my early 20s, been with the same girl for 5+ years. She’s part of a very rich family in the UK, likes to spend money, and she doesn’t work — creates friction when I’m not willing to pay up as frequently to secure my personal financial future. While we plan on getting married, it makes me feel emasculated/insufficient that even the partners at Bain probably have 1/10th of her family net worth.

Hit the gym and get the body of a Greek god -> become the ultimate trophy husband (looks + brains). She’ll soon realize she’s the luckiest girl on earth.

And yes, having a well chiseled body will boost your confidence by a lot.

This is a situation where you pay up now, and then later after married and she-starts to gain access to inheritance, she willl pay up… also if you are together 5 years and love her propose.

Seems like you two just need an honest conversation on how those financial resources will be shared and what type of life you will lead. If money isn’t needed, perhaps you can spend your time in nonprofit world or similar

SA1, I agree 100% DO NOT F THIS UP BRO!

F that.

If she’s that loaded and you plan on getting married then no way should there be friction as a result of you not willing to pay up.

Do you pay 50% or do you make her pay more since she comes from money?

50/50 — it is a bit of a stretch though. E.g. currently splitting a $5K apartment, which is a bit of a stretch considering I make just shy of $140K all-in at 23

Im starting a new job but still employed somewhere else. I was trying to be open about staying at BOTH places. My current job won’t let me be part time because they don’t allow “set schedules”. Yet I am one of the only reliable and loyal employees in the department, and currently working a set schedule. So why will they not let me continue a set schedule but with different hours? This place is more focused on strict policies and not actually trying to work their employees and being flexible.

Any of you partners or partnership track people start off as bad associates and then get it together a few years in? Trying to figure out if/ how I can get better at this.

I’ve worked the last nine years for my state legislature as an attorney analyst, drafting and analyzing proposed legislation. I’ve primarily worked on health professional regulations. Next year, I will apply for student loans forgiveness under the public service program and would like a change. I know others who have gone into lobbying/government relations, but I would like to find other options to pursue. I’ve never done billable work so not sure if law firm life is for me. Any suggestions?

Anyone here work in a firm where there are no female partners in your office? I feel like I have a lot of advancement opportunities from at least one partner but there is no clear route to partnership being shared at this point. I have been told it’s because all of the up and coming women in our firm haven’t made it there yet but I’ve only seen one woman become partner in the last few years (in another office) and the rest of the female partners have been laterals…

Can someone who knows more about the law than me explain why the opinion seemed to focus more on when life begins than plain old autonomy? I read both and they seemed to focus a lot on that point. But one of the better arguments I've seen online is that to take even a dead person's organs they had to consent first. Are these 2 totally separate principles or why would that concept not come into play? Or is needing consent from the dead not a federal thing
