Personally, I think there is no definitive way to become a creative director, constant work and a lot of discipline I would say, but I think this article can also help you a lot: https://ca.indeed.com/career-advice/finding-a-job/how-to-become-a-creative-director

As everyone else has stated, there isn't one way to become a creative director. My advice would be to pursue a job as a creative first (designer, art director, copywriter, etc.). Learn how to do the job of a creative.

You will most likely work under different creative directors as you grow in your career. Watch how they assist your work. Watch how they show up. Learn how to give constructive feedback. Learn how to construct a vision. Learn how to guide others in pursuit of their vision.

Most important: Once you intend to make that leap, start showing up to every job like a creative director. Don't wait for permission. Start walking people through your thinking. Start guiding the process. Then soon enough, people will look to you for guidance. That means you are now a Creative Director.

The title is nothing without the work.

There is no one answer to this question, as the career path for a creative director can vary depending on your skills, talents, and experience. What has your experience been previously in this industry and where are you located? If you're in, let's say, Los Angeles or New York City, I reckon it might be way easier for you to land a job than in the Midwest, for example.

What comes to my mind is that a good career path for a creative director may also involve pursuing a degree in advertising, marketing, or graphic design. Do you have experience in any of these fields? If you don't, getting at least a certification may be worth it!

You just need to start gaining experience in the marketing field. Be it digital marketing, working on ad campaigns, become an assistant, etc. As long as you're working and learning you'll eventually develop the qualifications necessary to work as a director. You can also set up your own agency and become the director that wat

You have to develop some pretty crucial skills to handle a role like that, and working in marketing in any capacity can help get you there. You need excellent communication, project management experience, proven track record of success, have creative vision, be a strong leader.

You can start by putting together your own projects in your spare time to build up your portfolio. Have an idea, put together a team that can execute it, and follow through your vision with direction. You might not be great when you first start out but you have to put in the work to earn the right to cal yourself a director

Perhaps you already have projects you've worked on under your belt. Use that to start with internships in marketing or advertising roles. Take as many courses and workshops as you can.

You need to look into creative marketing field first. I think that would be a great stepping stone for you. Best of luck!

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?
