How do i politely say please review the entire workpaper before sending comments? My partner just pings me comments tab by tab as he goes and so it’s hard to keep up or address them all

“Hi ___. Thank you for taking the time to review my workpapers. In the future I think it will benefit me if you could fully review my work and then send all the comments at once. This way I can hone in and understand my mistakes, whereas the way it is now I feel some of the edits might become lost on me. Please let me know if you want to discuss further and I thank you for your consideration”

That’s what I’m scared of i like this partner and learning a ton but it’s just a little hard to keep up with it

You could create a tab called partner review comments in the workpaper and let them know that this tab is to keep track of their comments. This way you are making the partner leave all comments in one place and it seems like you are “improving the process” instead of asking them do sth that you “prefer”

Those kinds of partners do seem to adopt new suggestions only when someone else makes it convenient for them. Also shows initiative. Great idea.

That’s a really annoying way for a partner to review. What level are you? My approach would be different if you’re a staff vs a manager, but I think the above suggestion of making a partner comments tab is smart.

Senior! So it’s kinda hard. I don’t want to complain or anything but there’s things linked through out so like I’d rather have them all at once but don’t want to be rude

Nah wont work tho. It’s their style and they wont change.Perhaps, you should adapt and make it work for you like someone suggested above.. you can ask your fellow staff that if he/she always does that and how they cop with that..

Oh and this same exact Tax Staff 1 agreed to it first, right before you did and yet this was the piece of wisdom that they decided to leave you with, which is in direct contrast to the other comment. Which is it? Do or don't?

I’ve never heard of (or experienced) a partner pinging comments like that. Inefficient and not the best way for you to learn. I’d be open about the challenges it presents and ask if he/she would be amenable to track changes or edits on if Sharepoint / Google drive in the document.

Honestly will try this! Or maybe next time I’m visiting the office that he sits in! I go up like once a month it’s only 3 hours from me

I had a client who would send their comments as they come across. 1comment per email. we fired them a year later lol

lol it would be hard for any firm to keep up with that

I’d bring it up in a way that lets him know that it’s hindering your ability to learn. Review comments are a form of feedback and it sounds like they are not effective with developing your knowledge and skills if you are feeling this way. Advocate for yourself, it’s worth it.

I’m a new senior who was working with a partner who seemed very stuck in his ways but when I addressed the fact that he wasn’t explaining things in a way that made sense to me, I was able to give him feedback about his teaching style and my learning style. Good luck!

Yeah i like him as a person and he gives me a ton of opportunities so I really don’t want to offend. I just get squirrel brain and feel like I’m trying to keep up and not learn

Hi, we just launched Diversity and inclusion committee at our work place and one of our many initiatives is to share some reminders /notifications about safety and inclusion in common employee platforms/portals e.g There’s no place or time when discrimination is acceptable. Please feel free to report to HR if you com across any discriminatory behavior. Anyone has any more similar ideas what other topics we can add?

Would you feel comfortable telling HR that your service line’s culture sucks and name the individuals who cause it? I was working at a Hotel one night & I saw a man appearing on two different floors, then in the stairwell. The man was in his 70’s or 80’s. He was wearing nothing but tidy whiteys. Are you okay?” (Assuming he may be senile),He wasn’t senile, he went swimming & wanted to make me uncomfortable and started to flirt while in his sopping wet see through tidy whiteys- and of course I had to clean up the water he tracked through the lobby.

I work at a PR firm and manager has been a nightmare. She has received positive feedback from teams, but is hung up on finding something wrong. For background, she has me on 10 accounts when other people on the team are under utilized. I’ve expressed needing help. Is this beyond repair? I’m completely burned out trying to impress her.
