You can set an option on gmail so that you'll be able to recall within like a minute of sending. Other than that, I don't think there's a way.

Gmail has an option in settings to cancel a send for 5-30 seconds after hitting send. It doesn’t have a recall function other than that, at least that I’m aware of.
Remember many email systems ignore recall requests, so even if the one you’re using to send supports it, you can’t assume it was recalled unless you’re certain that the recipient’s system supports it. Gmail’s is therefore most foolproof - the email isn’t sent until the timer counts down - but after that it’s too late.
Typically when you see that email, it means that your email system didn’t support recalls and instead of removing the email, it just showed you the request. As you note, that could be worse as an email you otherwise wouldn’t have read you now will.
