Get a job in Oahu. Otherwise the price of Hawaii real estate will probably grow faster than your retirement savings. Or if you want to go cheap the big island has affordable real estate in the volcano’s path.

I love Hawaii but does it not bug you out after a while being on a piece of land you can basically see the other side of that’s at least a 6 hour flight from any other major place?

Glad you had a great vacation. Hawaii is not for me. Must be my own neurosis but I was not a fan of being surrounded by water on all sides. Paying a billion dollars for a gallon of milk didn’t help. 🤣

Living there is definitely not the same as vacation! If you have kids, you’ll also be paying for private schools. Also be prepared for some discrimination if you are white. We lived there as kids and they know if you’re not a local. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful and lovely for vacation!!

Indigenous folks are asking travellers not to go to Hawaii or move there due to the struggling infrastructure and environment. You can do what you want (god knows most people do) but might be worth a read.
