How do i start figuring out which job I’d both be good at and enjoy doing? Feel like there’s way too much out there and narrowing my focus is difficult. I don’t know what actual skills i have or if I’m even good at anything. Any thoughts on how to get this process moving?

I just recently signed up to take the PE exam in 4 months in my specialty (civil: water resources and environmental). Now I am seriously looking at switching to software engineering in the next year or two. Would it still be worth it to complete the PE? Would it help me get a career in software engineering?

I am a POC and have enjoyed the diversity of colleagues that I have met in consulting so far. When I look at websites of PE firms, I see primarily white men from Associate all the way to Managing Director level.

Why do you think there are these structural differences? Do PE firms not believe as much in diversity of thoughts/lived experiences?

Do you think that consulting would provide more advancement opportunities than PE does for a POC, given the structural differences?
