Been at Alphabet my entire career post-undergrad. Managed to move from Google to a well-respected Bet where I’m very happy. Undergrad was a pretty general liberal arts degree and haven’t pursued grad school yet.
What would it look like (from a TC + long term career standpoint) to switch over to MBB for a year or two then go back to FAANG?

Give him a project to do, tell him he gets no staff and you are looking forward to seeing HIS work. When he does a good job, ease into the fact that he has to do some original work on an ongoing basis.
There may be a reason why he's not. Does he have other projects?
A lot of time there's a lot of work on the back end that associates and senior associates never really see.
Generally there are variances among leadership styles. Some lead with guidance. Others lead by example. There really isn't a right or wrong way.
I've learned to just be straight-forward. Like hey friend, can I give you some feedback?
I mean how big is his team? And what kind of work is it? That definitely changes how a manager needs to operate. Sometimes you do a lot more review and attend 10 billion meetings.
.... since moving into Strategy as SM I do more deliverable work than I've done in other types of projects as a manager. Very different model
