Unless you have a toxic team or manager they are 1000% going to support you in this move. At the end of the day THEY want you to be successful and productive - and they want the same out of someone in the position you're currently in.. Good luck and be confident!
Thank you! I love my current leadership but have had bad experiences in the past haha so I guess I’m just cautious
It's easy to feel afraid of the worst. I've been there so many times too, but almost every time I'm surprised by the positive response that I receive. They are lucky to have an employee who knows what they want, has the confidence to ask for it, and communicates openly. You could frame it like, "I've been considering the next best steps for my career & I'm wondering what a path would look like from my current position to a dedicated PM or resource management role within the company. I love working here, but I also really feel that I would be happier in a more internal position." Something like that??
That’s great! I feel like I love the organizational processes and ensuring things love smoothly but being client facing the last few years has been tough. I think speaking to what you mentioned as long as chatting through the processes piece would work well.
Feel free to ask if you have a good relationship with your boss. They would know they can only keep you for a while if it is a good boss. At the end of the day, it is your choice to do you want to do with your life. Also, they would appreciate that you tell them and would work together to get you where you want to be and train your replacement.
Fingers crossed!
You have to have a good relationship with your boss for you to have that kind of conversation (I'm not saying that it will be that bad). But you could try emailing your boss that you want to schedule a meeting you should also include what you want to talk about with your boss.
Agreed! I’ve had poor leadership in the past which makes me nervous but I like my current boss and feel they’re level headed so I think it will probably be fine. We have weekly meetings to discuss workload etc so I’ll think of a way to provide an agenda at some point
I tried to communicate something similar - I basically just said t hat while I enjoyed developing client relationships, I was more interested in ensuring stuff works better on the back-end, increasing efficiency and innovation etc. It was a nicer way of saying 'ugh clients annoy me' lol
Lol exactly. Client facing work has been tough the last few years but I would love to keep working on the process side of the house.
