I think your best bet is to have a clear and transparent conversation with them about how you’re feeling in terms of your workload so that you can identify viable solutions - hopefully one of them is hiring more people.
By giving them tangible data points that the current team is overburdened. You can't do much with "I feel" , but a lot with "I know" and "here's why".
Write it out and show what areas you need more support in. It's not unusual to need new team members sometimes, especially if a project is bigger or different from the last one.
Not just tell him how do you feel also show him how does this affect your productivity and give him a good reason, if he cares about his business he will be appreciated.
Show your responsibilities in your job in written form and create statistics. In this way, he can understand and accept that he will produce better results with more people.
