How do I transition from a firm in the states to a firm in Europe, if not moving internally from office to office? Any advice? Only speak English/Spanish, CFA level 1, 1.5 yrs IB @ regional boutique

Internal is your best bet. Second best would be to get an MBA at Insead/HEC/IESE/IMD/IE/LBS etc.

Google Financial Times european MBA ranking and pick the best one in whatever countries you want to work in. This is your one best shot at getting a decent job at a euro firm as a non-resident without being sent there by your parent company.

Good luck. You are likely making a bigger sacrifice career-wise than you imagine. Every step in your career will take an extra year over there and unless you are a natural networker, you may find that the most senior roles will be very difficult to break into as an outsider. It’s definitely a lifestyle choice.

Thanks for the advice (genuinely). Thought about getting an MBA in Europe for a while, but I’ve never dedicated much time to actually looking into it.

Not so much concerned with career progression/advancement, so it’s not too bad of a trade off. Low aspirations career-wise; bigger aspirations lifestyle/compatriot wise.

& before anyone points out the obvious discrepancies in taxes/compensation, that’s not really a worry of mine. I just want visa sponsorship to ultimately get EU passport and stay there. Preferably still in IB/PE/or PWM
