My brothers wife makes 250k working 4 days a week. We got played amigo
Also their union is amazing they basically make the argument that they’re as effective as doctors and less expensive, run the doctors out of the hospital then demand equal hourly pay and OT for anything over 40 a week.

Anyone who calls themselves a doctor without an MD is a sham lol
You mess up, people have a very good chance of not waking up. The reward matches the risk.
People are also missing a key point: most anesthesiologists are sued at least once in their careers. All it takes is a nerve block gone wrong and a patient waking up with chronic numbness and boom, roasted.
They perform the same hospital function as an anesthesiologist MD. And anesthesiologists make 300K
Wife also an anesthesiologist. We just went through the whole job search process so I have a lot of experience with comp and location.
You are correct that location matters a ton. We looked across the US and talked to practices that started employed Cardiac positions at $280 with little increase over time to practices that were at $475. There were also private practices where you start low at $300 but after making partner can earn $700+. There was also a mix of MD only vs supervising up to 8 CRNAs.
Also, you do not want CRNAs doing difficult surgeries. They are great on the easy stuff but do not know what to do when things go wrong. They have 2 years of training vs 8 for an anesthesiologist. Also, they do not have any liability if something goes wrong.
Requires a lot of training and people’s lives are at risk.
Fit for plastic surgery, no?

If I forget to align a text box it’s forgotten by next week.
If an anesthesiologist or their nurse misses a symptom/factor and puts in the wrong dosage of drugs (in mg as well) then.. yeah.
You can make 400k as a big4 consulting partner with a less education and easier work
Not true on the hours. Don’t forget they take out ridiculous loans for 4 more years of school and get paid a pittance in residency.

I can’t tell if this is a serious question. 36 minutes of gas might mean waking up in two hours. 35 means you wake up with your chest still open. 36 and two seconds means you die. And those numbers change drastically if your have an undiagnosed heart condition
To become a CRNA you need to get a Nursing undergrad, work as a nurse for a few years, then complete a doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia. By the time you do all that, you could already have been EM or AP level or equivalent at a large consulting firm.
I make $200k and work like 20 hrs a week maybe less

No one asked
Yeah my friend works when he likes. Total 7-8 days a month and clears 300k in ATL
Like others have said it is very difficult and takes a long time. It is a doctorate degree I believe, so they are doctors, they just have a different degree than an MD. Only the best of the best nurses get accepted into the program. I don’t think I would’ve lasted through nursing school
TR1. PharmD and OTD are 4 year programs. They are doctors. Where are you getting this “legally” it’s not allowed. They are not physicians. But they are Drs.

Does anything you do involve life or death?
Traveling nurses make $400k. Meet a nurse who financed 4 kids while his wife was a SAHM in an LCOL/MCOL. 1 in med school now, another is a firefighter/ paramedic (I forget), and 2 are something else / in college. He loved it because he could choose based on his preferences, like going south for the winter, taking a summer off, nearby city when needed.
Yep. My soon to be SIL is 24 and makes $350K as a traveling nurse. 40 hours a week only and she went to community college. She also travels within her home state (MD) so she can continue to live at home.

I have to comment again as it seems no one here actually has doctors and crnas in the family.
Anyone saying a few seconds or mL is life or death has no idea what they’re talking about. My sister in law triple doses a patient and nothing happened the body can take a lot
Your sister is law is lucky that she hasn’t killed someone yet with that attitude. Also, just cause they didn’t die doesn’t mean they didn’t have a harder recovery and a poorer outcome because of poor care.
We make like the same with way less school, debt, and no one’s gonna die. My sisters a CRNA and she’s jealous of me.
She became a CRNA because my uncle was the head of Anesthesiology at a major hospital in Boston so she did have an easier time getting into a program. CRNA programs are no joke

I still remember the idiot nurse who effed up the anesthesia for my first birth. No one will remember ten $10M proposals I’ll lose.
Didn’t realize this post would spark such a lively discussion lol
Because there is a very fine window between dead and alive when you are under anesthesia.
What's the liability insurance?
There are other liability heavy medical fields with massive shortages that lead to crazy pay. You are talking about the tip of the iceberg, a lot is hidden, and it's probably not as simple as it seems.
Check how much a specialist obstetrician makes (not the generic OBGYN), it will blow your mind. But that number is misleading. I have one in my household.
They have the highest malpractice insurance costs because they are the most frequent targets of medical malpractice lawsuits which is a result of dealing with the most complex childbirth issues. Parents will sue over everything, which as a parent I can understand, even in cases where an act of god couldn't have helped the situation.
Wife is a clinical pharmacist and it’s ~$1200/yr. Probably more for anesthesiologist.
