Does it get better (even slightly)? I am a first year M&A, and so far I don't necessarily mind the long hours but the unpredictableness just grates on me. I also don't feel like I'm learning anything: make this PowerPoint slide blue not red or make this chart in Word not have word wraps (all stuff I just immediately delegate to our document formatting team). I have a friend who has been at 4 firms in 6 years. She wants me to refer her to my firm (a v25) but I actually don’t think she’s a great atty and substantively isn’t experienced in the area she wants to work (wants to do tech trans but had experience in trademark prosecution and ip lit). I’m a 2nd year associate at a V50 firm. I lateraled about four months ago. Within weeks after I started, it became clear that one mid level associate doesn’t like me, and the other mid levels on my team do. This particular mid level is dismissive and has a superior attitude; gives terrible instructions and then gets upset when I follow those instructions and they don’t get the result they want; has given bad feedback about me to my boss; and lately has just stopped responding to my emails. My supervising partner keeps encouraging me to take vacation time. Everyone else in my group has taken several vacations recently.
However, my hours hit rock bottom for several months at the beginning of Covid. It is impossible for me to reach my annual target this year. I have the ability to bill 50+ hours over my monthly target now.
I feel like higher up management may disagree with my boss’s outlook, but I am burning out. Thoughts?

Which firms announced they’re opening offices in November (NY)

Did an unsolicited submission to a firm 3 months ago, as their website indicated no recruiter submissions for unsolicited positions. Didn’t hear back, & a third-party recruiter reached out regarding an actual opening. Since I’d already submitted my materials, I can’t work with said recruiter. Would it be ok to reply to my previous email/submission to the firm explaining the situation— I.e, recruiter reached out regarding opening, can’t work w. her, resubmitting in consideration for x position?
