How do other companies give raises? My company only does one performance review a year and gives a raise

My last company was small and gave me 2% twice over 5 years which felt like a slap. Seems to be yearly at Delta and I got 7% last year in April. I don't expect it to be as big this year.

like

Agreed, I could live with 7%. The 2-5% is rough especially after no raise 1 year during covid.

Mine does that as well and it's not exciting. Waiting for a yearly review and if you are good to get a raise you get 2-5%, while if you accept another offer you get an instant 20-25%.

like

Inflation is about 6-7% so if my raise in six months or so isn’t that much, I will have to start applying for other jobs

like

Same and it’s max 5%…

Hi All,
I have total of 2years and 4 months of experience in the same company.
My current CTC is 13 LPA (10 fixed 3 one time fixed bonus).
Is this a good package for this much experience or should I look for a change?
Thanks

I’m in the early stages of thinking through various options.

Looking for advice on negotiating a raise. My current company recently "reviewed all salary positions to determine if they were needed to be competitive in the market". Of course they came to the conclusion that none were needed. The issue is that there are very very few positions, similar to what I do, to compare against. I'm highly skeptical as to what they actually compared us against so my question is... Is it worth using similar positions in different industries as a comparison?

I’ve been running into weird happenings at my new firm learn of everything “I misunderstood” about my package. I don’t actually qualify for quarterly bonuses at a pro-rated billing rate; no 401ks till year 2; and the biggest—we don’t qualify for a raise unless we are here during the entire fiscal year. We have a 2100 billable req which I’m barely hitting. We also get paid below 6 figures. I learned that the new associates came is at least $10k over us. I graduated 2020–but 1st firm job. Advice?

Curious to know what others think about the importance of both firm and in-house experience for mid-level positions. I do not have previous large firm experience (did practice as a sole practitioner for several years though - IP, entertainment law) but have five years of demonstrated success as an in-house attorney. Many mid-level postings prefer/require both firm and in-house experience. Is my experience disqualifying from such postings?

S&P500 has been gaining value at historically high rates for over a decade. For it to return to its 100 plus year average of 8-9%, it has to slow down. The interest rates will go up - given that we have serious inflation - pretty soon. Long story short, we may be looking for a lost decade in 2020s in terms of S&P500 returns. What do you think about it?

I really like being closer to the user and the creativity as far as front-end. But I also reallly really enjoy math and logic and the more complex side to back-end. My dream would be to do full stack but thats not an option. Scared of getting pigeon holed. Any suggestions as to what to do / tips?

I'm hiring and I've just learned that my HR department is screening candidates by asking them about very specific functions and frameworks.

"Can you describe your experience using Element#remove()?"

"Can you describe your experience migrating from X framework to Y framework?"

We don't use Y framework and have no plans to use Y framework in the foreseeable future. I also don't expect candidates to have all functions memorized. How on Earth did they find out about Y framework!? 🙄🫣

How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.
