Stop caring
It’s awful and happens frequently. I’ve stopped enabling those people whenever i can. I used to be a team player for the good of the project. Once it’s clear that’s someone’s trying to slide by, I back away. At least their failing upwards won’t be due to my support.
^I’m trying to learn to do that ... any tips?
It’s easier as you move up for sure. The first area i had success was in avoiding internal initiatives run by/with those folks. Even if i wanted to do it, i knew it would be a recipe for heartache. If its on a project, making sure any request from them is clearly documented in advance to make sure they’ve thought it through. The last bit has been trying to find out what they are good at, so I can use that. Are they great at shooting the breeze? Great - have them chat up that one client who also can’t stop talking. They can bond and you can get work done! Can they manage logistics? Great, have them set up workshops! Etc
Meh, better to be able to sleep at night and live your life with integrity. Just master the art of ensuring that you get credit for your efforts, and find ways to expose the bullsh*tters. There have been some good suggestions for how to do so in other threads on FB
You have to be a natural at this. It’s not something that you can learn from scratch.
Personally, I don’t do sh*t and made it to manager without any hiccups;)
That can work for a while but ultimately fails long term
Great advice. How do I spot this one thing they’re good at ? Any tips for that?
