I don’t know that states would want the federal government telling them what students should be taught (especially depending on how you feel about the current administration). I’d be worried that the federal government benefits would be worse than what I’m currently getting.
I think that education should not be run by the federal government. As a teacher in one of the 25 largest districts in the country, we are bound to broad district policies. Our district is so diverse and needs are so vastly different from one part to another. I wish we could have more autonomy and could therefore better respond to the needs of our school and community. Unfortunately, though, district policy rather than local need drives decisions.
ideally, it could be great. My husband is a federal worker and gets great benefits and retirement and gov workers' payscale is much better than ours! but would it ever happen?
My first thought, will teachers be furloughed if the budgets are not signed or must work without pay until the Elected official decide to work together. A second thought, what the schedule be like 12 months, 10 months, work a month, adjourn, reconvene, give some test, grade a few papers, filibuster for a few weeks, adjourn for a month and reconvene, complain about about nothing, point fingers at each other and adjourn again, reconvene and agree to come back to discuss the postal service... No thanks to FS idea....😖
