How do people feel about lateral moves to less prestigious boutique firms? Is it a bad idea despite increase in salary and development opportunities?

A lateral move on paper was good for me previously when I moved to a smaller firm because I got more exposure and development. Stayed for 3-4 yrs, then moved back to a big firm

If partner track is your goal, could be easier at a boutique if you don’t plan to exit to in-house

Being a partner anywhere > not being a a partner anywhere else

like

Could be, but I've seen a few very small firms where there seems to be a reluctance to expand partnership through internal promotions. Worth explicitly asking during later stage interviews if you're aiming for partner.

How do you define “prestige”?

“Name brand” firms that everyone seems to know (for LS - LEK, CV, putnam, etc.).

If u wanna stay in the smaller company so u can rise to partner fast, it makes sense. What r ur long term goals?

Hi all,
I graduated during Covid with a double major in business administration and business management with a minor in marketing and magically ended up in sales because I needed a job. I’m about to take a data analytics course to make an attempt to break into that field. I’m currently looking for a mentor to help guide me during this time. Also, if anyone is willing to look over my resume and give me tips on how to make it more presentable for recruiters in DA that would be very helpful. Thanks

Looking for some advice: I am extremely unhappy in my current role (literally just had a breakdown and cried for a good 30 minutes) and I want to leave. I’ve tried to switch groups internally to try something different but always receive pushback from my leadership. I haven’t been able to find a role externally yet and I’m not 100% sure what I really want to do for work. Any advice at all? I’m really stuck and not sure what to do.
