I eloped both times. $250 for the first wedding and $2000 for the second (we rented a Bentley) and I actually bought a dress for the second one. Having no guests really drops the price quick.
I did get married by elvis in vegas.
Bought plane tickets, hotel rooms, and a few hundred bucks “fun money” for every guest. Did the whole thing for less than 8k, with an impromptu elvis danceoff at the altar. Amazing

Photo video (drones), DJ, and Decor alone can run up to 60k. I agree with you. It’s very difficult to have a nice wedding for less than 100k.
SAP1 - you realize that’s treading on Kardashian territory, right? People can have a grad party in a backyard with pizza, a grocery store cake and a keg and still have an awesome memorable time. I’m old but nobody in my high school or college had a party like you are describing (a videographer? Who tf is going to watch a graduation party video except for maybe the graduate’s grandma who is a shut-in?)
A2 - now all I can think of is the Dave Grohl / Ashton Kutcher sketch of the punk rock wedding band.
What a bubble to be in

How can anyone at EY afford a wedding?
Before I came on this app I used to want to work at Deloitte. Why are all your responses on here so high and mighty
What’s wrong with you people, I spent 3k. Stop burning money for one night of fun, some people have real problems and could actually use that for something necessary and not flamboyantly extravagant.
I can’t believe this is a discussion. What a smug pile of bull. You have the right to spend as much as you want on your wedding, but the audacity to ask how people could possibly accomplish such a feat for less than $100k? This was never a real question that desired a real answer. An exemplar of flexing and nothing more.

Someone has never worked for less than 30k per year a day in their life.
Wow so perfect

Sounds like you / SO have expensive tastes
You inviting the whole city or something?
I got married in Italy. Travel, stay and venue in total cost me 25k. The venue included the food and the total came out to 14k USD.
Cool
I’m about to drop 50k all-in on 200 people in Chicago and I though that was expensive…
You should get beat up for that statement lol… unbelievably tone deaf
With a comment like that, I hope your significant other chooses better
1 100k wedding isn't even lavish in some countries - just saying 😐
My family in India, which is pretty well off by most standards (I.e. land owning, educated, corporate jobs) have spent at MOST 1.5CR on a wedding, but the average is much lower (more like $10-30k). Indians in AMERICA spend a ton on weddings, like $80k minimum up to $400k from what I’ve seen

You a WW? 👧

Nope lol

My destination wedding with ~35 attendees rang in at about $25-30k total 🤷
Keep in mind the cost your guest must of had to pay to get to such a destination plus a week in the hotel.

Sorry, I recognize it absolutely can be done - just with a ~300 person guest list in NYC, it seems like quite a daunting task (and that figure is comprehensive - everything from planner to dress).
This would the maxed out Dunbar number for you and your spouse, totally absurd.
You won't even see all those people that day.
Don’t do it in the tri state area lol
Running into this problem now. Where is it cheaper from a venue perspective ?!
Pro
You don’t invite unnecessary people, which is about 90% of the invites
Haha I’m getting married in 3 weeks in the greater nyc area the wedding will come out to be 100k for about 180 guest. Cost add up fast especially if you have a big family
And friends.
Posting some 2019 stats for the US:
The average wedding costs $38k, ranging from <$20k in Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah to $53k in New Jersey. Weddings in New York and Rhode Island cost ~$48k on average in The Knot’s annual survey of real weddings.
If you're inspiration is a 6-figure wedding then you will probably get a 6-figure wedding. I could have a smell wedding in my backyard with a caterer, DJ, and photog and spend under $10K.

Totally only tangentially related, but one of my excessively foodie friends had a tasting party like that at his house a few years ago. I didn't have the heart to tell him that after 30+ years of extensive exposure to chlorinated pools, my sense of fine smell is totally shot and I could only pick up the strongest aromas, none of the fine details he was going for.
