How do y’all avoid burning out? I see colleagues working 15 hour days for weeks on end and do not see myself doing something like that without wanting to quit.

Fear of disappointing clients and colleagues is higher and there is no real alternative. That said, if it really gets too much, take that half hour to walk outside, read a book, enjoy your meal. And that might be my Stockholm syndrome speaking but you can get used to a lot more than you think.

I feel the same way. Curious the older partners I work with sustain life for so long on the 15 hour/day grind. It’s almost as if they are addicted to it. They joke with each other, leaving the office every Friday night, “see you tomorrow! Oh, I’ll be here.” Trust me, there’s a time and place for work and grind, but not everyday and weekend. The big law model, to me, isn’t sustainable for long term happiness and wealth. I’m exploring other options!

I’m the maid of honor in my sisters wedding and she’s saying that MOH dresses cost a minimum $250 - $300. Is this everyone’s experience? It’s been years since I was in a wedding but that seemed excessive. I don’t want to fight with her about her wedding but I also don’t want to spend a crazy amount of money on a dress I probably can’t wear again. If this is the going rate then it is what it is but I just can’t believe that.

Hey gang, when applying for a job, what’s the etiquette for connecting directly with the person who you would be reporting to through LinkedIn? Would it be considered creepy/ unprofessional? And if not, what’s the best way to approach it?

For context
It’s a role that I’d be a good fit for, but it’s at a company that gets a lot of applicants so I’m looking for opportunities to get a leg up.

I have two mutuals with this person, but I barely know them so can’t really ask for an intro.

Quitting before finalizing offers?

I’m at post onsite and negotiation stage at a couple places but it may take another month or 2 due to either hiring freezes or general slow processes.

I want to quit now to go on vacations that I held off during prep. Does it make much difference when I negotiate offers? Like if my upcoming unvested RSU would be (partially) matched, and they find out I quit somehow, is it no longer matched? Other potential snags?

Already burned most of my PTO interviewing.

I’m a first year - partner gave shitty instructions (objectively) to a time-sensitive drafting project. They’ve been on vacation. I’ve been drowning lately, so I wake up super early to finish the draft and send it in around noon. Partner wanted it by 3 pm today, but doesn’t look at it until 5:30. Realizes I didn’t do what he wanted - which he never told me - and wants a redraft in an hour. How’s your Friday going?

I am at a boutique firm and primarily work with two partners. With one I feel like I love what I do as I have autonomy, client contact and am not afraid to screw up. If that continued I can see myself staying at this firm for the long term. On the other hand when I work with the other, I am not in the loop on anything, feel like an idiot and wonder whether I’ll be around for long. To keep it short I am a non traditional 2nd year associate who was a non-atty in the same industry for 5 yrs prior.
