How do y’all cope with working in another time zone? Remote and supporting a project 3 hours behind me. Got calls late through the evening and find it hard to have a life outside of work.

I adjust my schedule - that may mean mornings or mid-day are “my time” instead of evenings. Shift my workouts to morning, etc

I’m on a project 3 hours behind and I find it most useful to level set expectations upfront. Try and make plans to schedule touch points at the end of your workday so you can be clear on what you can be working on in the 3 hours you have before they start their workday. If you have a halfway reasonable team, they should respect everyone’s desperate attempt at a work/life balance. May require you also proving you can really crank out results in the beginning of your day. (Side note: I’ve personally observed that working remotely with a traveling team that can’t go right home after work is EXTREMELY different than working with locally staffed teams.)

You don’t really. I typically travel to the client site in those situations

Once upon a time, I supported a project in Guangdong from EST. You just adjust.

Working remote on another time zone now. Work EST 4 am - 2 PM. Then put up an auto rely explaining off hours and later in the day is my time unless I get a message I know I need to answer. Project supports it as long as all my deadlines are met

By close of eyes is not a reasonable time for any deliverable to be due. You work from home not 24/7. Let’s normalize standard working hours; if work isn’t done within eight to nine hours in day then it’s time for evaluate systems, if all those Zoom calls were necessary and staff utilization.

Got an informal offer to join a client (manufacturing company). 240k base, 60k cash bonus target (can shrink or double depending on company metrics) + 50k annual equity (3 yr rolling vesting). Director level which has just one additional layer between me and the Exec Committee. My contact already internal negotiated extra vacation and is working on my behalf for a signing bonus. Is it worth trying to negotiate base? Or is this already a strong offer?

Hi everyone! I'm looking to leave the consulting world but don't know where to start. I live in the DMV so everything is government and/government consulting. Hi EY and Fishes everywhere! I might be getting an offer to join tax as an S1 (or exp. assoc), probably not being able to start until mid August based off how the process has been. However, I currently work at a mid size firm and we’re already getting into busy season. How would it look if I asked EY to postpone my start date till after 10/15 and say that I’m not ready to be thrown into a Big 4 busy season and that I don’t want to leave my current firm out to dry. Thank you all so much! @EY
