How do y’all distribute your 401k contributions? Evenly spaced to meet the max throughout the year or frontload contributions to get the money invested ASAP and hopefully make gains sooner?

Evenly spaced to take advantage of company match. If you max too early, you may not get any additional match if you leave within the year or if your company doesn’t “true up” for the match at year end

At PwC, we evenly space it to maximize employee contributions.

Thanks

Front loaded.

So if you set aside employee contribution for a minute, then what you are asking is equivalent to lumpsum vs. dollar cost averaging. This is very debatable but I believe in lumpsum contribution if you can because most of the gains happen only on a few days. Personally it is a matter if I don’t need to bother about it for the rest of the year. However with employee contribution and bonuses playing a role it is not the good idea to front load.

Depends on how your plan is setup. In most cases, investing as much as you can as early as possible is the best approach. Gives you an entire year of growth on your money. If that somehow affects your match, then obviously don’t do that.

Thanks, this is in line with what I’m thinking. Will have to look into how ACN matches the contribution

Looking for some advice. Currently contributing 10% to 401k and maxing out Roth IRA, and remainder of savings (usually $800-$1200 per month) putting in a HYSA for a down payment on a house. Hoping to buy in 2-3 years once we (partner & I) have a sizable down payment. Should I continue to put all my non-retirement savings in an HYSA for a downpayment or should I also contribute to my brokerage and invest to grow wealth? (24yo, $85k)
