You have to find the amount of work you’re willing/able to do on a long term basis. For me that is 50 billable hours a week but for others it will be lower/higher. If you’re at that number you should turn down new assignments. One caveat for a first year is that sometimes you’re billing very inefficiently (and may not know it), having a bit too much on your plate teaches you how to handle this more efficiently.

Corporate or specialist? Sounds ridiculous either way, how understaffed are you?

Gen corp

Wow. I’m a specialist and this would still make me go insane.

Anyone think there's any value to the CCXP certification? If not, are there any CX certifications that are worthwhile?

Renegotiating after accepting an offer? My current employer has updated their offer to retain me well above the offer I accepted at my new employer. Previously they had only matched the new offer, which I declined. Would it be inappropriate to approach my new employer to match the offer? It’s 12 days before start date at new employer.

Any agencies in NYC/Chicago hiring copywriters from Toronto (Canadian citizen so will need visa) or is that out of the question for the next foreseeable future? I don’t see much upward mobility in Toronto so I’m curious as to whether Canadian writers have made a move south.

Anyone have any advice on how to ask for a sign on bonus when one wasn’t offered as part of my compensation package? If so how much is a fair amount(% of base salary)

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm about to endorse 10 beers into my mouth because this has been an incredibly stressful evening. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

I am in a dilemma: I can try to pass 3 sections (reg, bec, and FAR) in 5 months while in busy season or just let my Audit credit expire in May and start over. I think the latter sounds better. WWJD??

Hey all. How do you guys deal with condescending males co workers? I work in tech support for my company’s software and sometimes we need to work closely with engineers. This one engineer I’ve been working with has been incredibly rude and condescending through email correspondence. I’ve confirmed it’s not just a “feeling” as it actually comes off as such. He’s not my boss or even in my region and he acts like he can tell me what to do. Have any of you dealt with that? What should I do?

Just left as a consultant to a SF tech startup.
$210 base + bonus with 200K in RSUs (vesting over 4 years) and $30K sign on. Can anyone comment on the comp vs benchmarks for tech manager roles

Two questions: 1) I’m pregnant with my first baby (16 weeks), any advice on when to disclose? 2) Does that timing advice change given our current COVID circumstances? I’ve been WFH since March, and while the Firm hasn’t indicated it’s going to require us back in, a handful of partners I work have started to mention it. I’d like to nip that talk in the bud and feel like a reasonable way to do that is to disclose. Thanks in advance for any thoughts?

8th year associate at firm that pays market. Never been all that interested in making partner, but life is manageable.
I’ve been angling to get an in house job for years (not a huge market in my city for my practice), and finally got one with a company I like. But the comp cut is killing me.
$365 -> $205 with a comparable cut in bonus pay. Will I hate myself for making this jump? Or is it finally time to cut bait?

How detailed should I be in my description of work in my conflicts table?

Question for funds folks, since no one is around to answer any questions and I can't seem to find this answer anywhere. Why can't a placement agent combine or integrate the offering of interests in the sponsor's fund with the contemporaneous offering of interests in another fund? Is it based on reputational risk or from a sales perspective in case someone rejects both funds, any other issues? Thanks!

Any insights into Akin’s NY culture in the corp group generally?

Help me or shoot me. I’m a 5th year lit associate drinking a scotch while finishing a brief, on a Friday night no less, and actually kind of enjoying it.

I’ve become everything I hate.

Three things in life are certain: taxes, more taxes and you guessed it… MORE TAXES!

At a boutique firm that I’m very happy at but putting in my two weeks notice on Monday to go to a BL firm (for $ and exit opportunities down the road). Feeling very anxious! I feel like I’m about to blindside everyone. Any tips? Words of wisdom?

Trying to gauge how normal this is. I'm a second year litigation associate and I have never worked with a senior associate. I exclusively work with NSPs or senior partners. However, I have delegated to first years in some of my cases. Is this common in litigation? My firm definitely has midlevels and senior associates, so it's not a headcount issue. V10 if that matters.

Anyone else love the movie Carnage? I feel like the lawyer (Waltz) and investment banker (Winslett) are so accurate to the personalities that you meet in our strange world.

Do you ever find yourself listening to what’s being discussed on a deal-related call and think “I don’t give a sh*t about any of this”? I can’t be the only one.

Anyone have any recommendations for an app or platform that can connect me with a personal assistant? Feels ridiculous to even ask (esp since I don’t have kids) but could really use help with small tasks like picking up dry cleaning, grocery shopping, etc.

I’m a junior M&A attorney who doesn’t have a background in business/finance. Any book recommendations for someone to learn more about some key concepts like NWC, financial statements, disclosure schedules, or the deal process in general?

Partners - Would you consider hiring a senior litigation associate at a v5 as a junior partner under the right scenario? If so, what would be the considerations?

1st year associates in 2007 earned $160,000 in base compensation, which is equivalent in purchasing power to $228,654.88 today.

I am a very newly minted partner with a small book of business (950k or so) that is very loyal to me alone. I could go anywhere and my current clients would follow me. I like my big firm but regional firms are offering me equity and all kinds of perks to come over and bring my book. My book is small for my firm so I get very few resources to support it. The regional firms are offering more money and all kinds of support. They will all likely have less conflicts than I currently deal with. WWYD?

Last year I billed 1680 in new practice. Got a generous bonus but OMG 😳

In house (3rd year) looking to move to big law corporate at a first or second year level, which I have stated in my interview. Had a second interview almost a full week ago and thought it went great. Do I have good chances on getting an offer? Should I follow up soon?

I was an experienced lawyer in my home country and have only been in BigLaw in the US for less than a year and it is wearing me out and zapping the joy out of life. Should I be looking for an exit, head back home where there is better work life balance, or soldier on for another year? This was supposed to be my dream job, but I guess all that glitters is not gold.
