How do you all deal with the like, inability to start things and get motivated in the absence of an imminent deadline? Sometimes I feel like I can’t “activate” my brain without wild amounts of stress :/

Medication... I'm only being half flip. My ADHD mainly manifests in trouble with activation, not with sustaining a task. Medication has helped a lot with that.

Non-medication tactics that have worked for me: Breaking down things into small steps (like 20 min or less) so starting doesn't seem like such a huge step. Committing to working on something for 10 min even though those 10 min feel like swimming through molasses. Small rewards like a sticker on a calendar for completing those 10 min. Figuring out which time of day I have the most energy and scheduling task starts only in that window. Exercise to get my adrenaline up before stating something really boring.


Hmm you get your highest peak performance with excess stress. Why don't you start writing down your tasks and change the due dates a few days early so that you can have some time after to review your work?

By EOD I have massive dark circles under my eyes and my face is face super flush from taking adderall.

Anyone else like this? If so, any remedies?


Anyone really struggle with lectures? I find it challenging to do online trainings when I have to listen to an hour of a recording of someone talking over a PPT.

I always end up 2x speed, which helps, but even then I manage to get distracted. I find it way more efficient to read materials on my own.

If anyone has strategies to make things like this more bearable I’m all ears! 🙏🏼


Any good ADHD psychiatrist in the Bay Area? My previous psychiatrist wasn’t a good fit

I started taking Adderal, 2.5 g which is not really a lot. It didn’t really help with my focus, instead I felt restless and somehow nervous and really thirsty. And it made me clench my teeth. I do grind my teeth during nighttime but never experienced this in the daytime. Does it take time to get used to it?


Venting … So, this is apropos timing. I was hired by a firm (not the one listed on my prof) two months ago and on at least three occasions notified them about my adhd and the anticipated need for an accommodation based on historical experience and my documented diagnosis. Three weeks ago they fired me for not meeting expectations. I only put in four weeks of actual project work, in the last month of a 9 month long engagement. UGH! I just want to work..


Any Deloitte fishes out there that have analyzed the health benefit options for Vyvanse coverage? Both me and my daughter take Vyvanse and I have been burned by plan coverage/prescription benefits in the past. I think the PPO plans actually end up cheaper, all other variables removed.

Do you take stimulant medication if you have slept less and wake up with a headache? Even if Ican take a short nap because of wfh, stimulants prevent me from taking a nap and I feel foggy without stimulants and I get a mild heat ache with stimulants and lack of sleep. Please help. Thank you!
