Set up a 1:1 with your manager first and just express it. Better than dancing around the topic. You can of course communicate your gratitude for your experience to date but just have the reasoning ready and well thought out (2-3 main points for why it’s right for your development to move on...better to not just have 1 in case they come back to you with a reason why that’s not important at this point in your career). Most people are understanding and it shouldn’t be an issue. Be flexible and patient with timing of when it would be best, and then ask for advice on how to bring it up with the partner/senior team...the manager might be able to handle that part for you. If they really give you a tough time you should set up a call with your coach or RL for advice on next steps, but I doubt you’ll have any issue. Good to move on when you’ve given it a good run and are ready for the next step. Good luck!

This is good advice

Also try to think about your experience relative to peers - not sure how long you’ve been here but I get so many first year associates coming to me saying they are desperate to roll off a project bc they’ve been there “forever” but in the reality of my practice, 3 months is nothing bc a lot of our projects are closer to 6-8 months+. I know ppl get into consulting thinking it’s going to be quick 6 week, get in get out kind of projects, but that’s just not how the business works. That may not be what you want to hear, but you aren’t going to get a ton of sympathy from leadership after only a few months when we have plenty of people on projects (that they don’t always want to be on) for over a year; at the very least you need a really good reason why this project doesn’t fit with your development needs.

Think about what you’re actually asking for, your motivation, and what you expect the long-term outcome to be. “Workload is problematic”: do you expect to find something lighter? Would it make more sense to help Mgr/PL figure out how to better align the work & staffing? “You’re stagnating” what does this mean? You have two people who think you’re doing a great job - and now you want to leave the project. Instead, could you talk to them about the role and how you can grow further? Having allies who recognize your value and are pulling for you is worth a lot in my opinion. I would be looking to partner with them on the path forward, not asking them to roll off. But obviously your mileage may vary. Just my POV. Whatever you decide to do, be open and honest about what you actually want to happen.

Okay so from my experience, a few points: 1. If you are an associate, it’s going to be hard for you to get your frustration heard unless you’ve been on the project for at least 6 months (even though I get how even 3 months can get to you) 2. Talk to your manager. They should be understanding. They were in your place once. 3. Figure out what other projects are out there. If you really want other experiences and there’s nothing in your vertical, look at other verticals 4. Talk to your coach. 5. Be patient about rolling off because they may not find the best person to take on the project for maybe a month or so. 6. Don’t be afraid to keep asking to roll off. Unless you say it a few times people don’t register it mostly because they don’t want to. And nobody expects you to enjoy sticking around for half a year on the same project and not growing so don’t be afraid 7. Don’t let people talk you into staying on in the project because they feel “you’re looking at it the wrong way” or “being too demanding” or whatever. 8. Good luck!! Self realisation is the first step!! We’ve all been there at some point and I hope you get what you’re looking for out of this job :)

Agree with all of S2s points

For clarification: Been on several months, handover would not be an issue, advise on approaching and framing the discussion would be helpful

I think it's time to switch my career from copywriting (creative) to account/project management. I am so tired of dealing with clients who shut down my teams work and twist it into whatever they think is best. It is DRAINING. I have no experience in AM/PM but would love to give it a try because being a creative in an industry that fails you, sucks. Any advice (certificates, courses) for someone looking to switch in to the manager side? (Preferably in tech)

Hello Friends, I am working on a project and billing ended on 29th April. Now my delivery manager texted me and said that client needs more support for 3 weeks. So since 9th May you will be billed till 27th May. My team mates are already billable till 9th may. Now I am billed for next week, should I give 100% or not? Or shouldn't work at all? Does billing matters? How could it affect me?

I was placed on a PIP due to a project where the client didn’t like our work and from there I crushed the PIP and got off of it with no issues. Unfortunately, I was told my work was great and people gave great feedback but I still was placed on it anyway. I was terminated luckily with a 45 day severance package and honestly grateful to have finally been out of there and to a firm I like.

Anyone know whats the TPP (technology partner program) ? My offer letter has the client as TBD and my role as a project delivery specialist. I was told informally by the recruiter, that currently all these roles are remote.

Ever since my firm has been pushing a return to office (2-3 days a week… Just to be in office. There’s essentially no in person client interaction at my firm and no genuine need to be in person) I’ve just felt such an existential dread. I’m so unhappy. I’m constantly anxious. I’ve had so many Mini panic attacks about it. I want to cry all the time. And I’m so fed up speaking with pigheaded people who refuse to listen to (and actively criticize) people who don’t want to be in office.

It’s the discipline - the secret behind 100’s of Indian American companies is now automated and reduced to 1 hr a day job: 1. Post content, trainings to attract a candidate to your Bench 2. Share bench to other recruiters and clients 3. Connect with chat and close contract

Are SMTs (satellite media tours) still an effective and worthwhile tactic? Haven't done one in years but considering it for a client.

Funny experience - I was in the line at a craft store and started chatting with the people around me. Person in front of me was annoyed about having to craft valentines for her kid's class. You must have a lot of free time and money huh. Me: yeah it's pretty great 😃👍

How do you deal with a manager who always blame you for actions that the manager instructed me to do in the past? E.g. manager reviews client decks with you and instructs to just note a strict budget to report. After a week, manager rereads the same deck and blames me for not supporting the budget that was added per the manager’s request. We always have this situation, no matter how much I ask for clarity in any internal reviews. I even sent back the emails and slack chats as an attachment.

Has anyone successfully negotiated a title? I was looking for Senior Manager positions but applied for some Mgr positions too. I’m up for promo next year at my current job as well. The current industry offer meets my comp expectation but planning to see if they would bring me in as a senior manager. There isn’t a set hierarchy for the team as of right now as they are building the team and I’d be reporting to a senior executive. Any talking points/tips that might help me negotiate?

Hi Everyone! I am hiring for several positions below. If you or anyone you know may be interested, please feel free to reach me here or on my LinkedIn account :) 1. Director of Federal Sales (Washington DC area) 2. Director of Solutions Engineering (fully remote) 3.
