I just got an email from a recruiter from Google!
Omgomgomgomg
He said that the position is in the Bay Area or New York. I haven’t replied the email. I don’t think we can move to those cities, but I don’t want to lose this opportunity. Does anyone know if Google does remote jobs within US?

I had to come to terms to this and I realize if the response to asking about WLB is negative, then frankly, this isn't the place I want to work for then
A few thoughts as someone who just exited and highly prioritized WLB.
1 - Wait to truly probe until you have the offer. At that point, you can ask to be connected with some team members and don't have to worry about coming across as "not willing to work hard" because you have the offer.
2 - Be specific with your questions. Instead of "How is the WLB?", ask "On a typical day, what time do people on this team sign on in the morning and log off in the evening?"
3 - Ask the question from multiple angles. There are many ways that WLB manifests, don't be afraid to ask about many of them. "What are are the hours like in a busy week? How often / when are the busy periods? On a typical night, do you log back online after dinner? What's the norm around answering Slack messages / emails at night?" Etc.
If you ask those specific questions to a couple different people, you should get a good feel. Best of luck!
This is good advice- thank you. One of the roles is a leadership type role that is newly created so not sure if there is many similar "peers" to talk to but the other positions certainly have that
Just ask directly- I think employers are starting to realize people care about WLB
Yes every “intense” job I’ve ever interviewed at has been very transparent about WLB. Last thing anyone wants is to hire someone, invest in training them, then having them quit during crunch time bc they can’t handle the hours.
When it doubt, ask!
