I know this may sound a little odd but I just schedule time on my calendar as if it was another meeting or commitment. I find myself that by doing that I’m blocking that and ensuring it gets done. I’ve been able to keep a very healthy workout routine and incorporate more time to relax in the afternoon.
As someone who can get very involved with responsibilities both professional and personal, adding things to the calendar has made it easier to just make them part of my daily routine as any other class, meeting, or task.
This is a good idea— thank you.
I’d say be kind to yourself. When your body and mind need a break, let it have one without guilt, even if it’s several days, weeks. We can’t all be productive all the time, and when you take the long view, seems like the life you have is both tracking towards goals and full in a good way
100% commenting so I can follow along! I’m about to start law school part time in August with a full time job. I need the good tips here!
I finally got tired of missing out on me time or friend time from always letting work be the higher priority. That was how my mind was set, prioritize the work and family commitments and just see if I find time for anything else.
Now I just place more importance in me time and friend time. I commit to it like I would work.
I do track things in my calendars but it was really just a hard mindset shift for me realizing I can be so disciplined with work and made myself be disciplined for things that fulfill me too. Work brings me so little joy outside of my paycheck i’m also just trying to try less, tier 1s don’t fulfill me but memories with friends and family and taking care of me does.
Thank you for this! I certainly agree that my work does not fulfill me beyond a paycheck.
