You need to find client opportunities. And people to work with you. You do it by collaborating with everyone, so they can help sell what you’re selling, by working with your sponsors who might have an opening for you, and through a lot of self-directed hustle.

Probably late for this now, but you should have some discussions about what the firm will be doing to set you up for success too. It shouldn’t be a one-way street where it’s fully your obligation to build a new network and find staff.

When I’ve been involved in hiring other senior leaders, part of the planning has been around what pieces of business and what resources we could hand over to help the person hit the ground running.

I’ve handed clients & engagements over to partners we bring in so that they have a starting platform. Why in the world would we want to hire a partner and then set the person up to fail?

Found a most enlightening work on decolonial history with tons of TIL moments especially about Anti Colonial movements in Egypt, China, Japan and course India in the 19th and 20th centuries. Most histories this period often adopt a Euro-centric lens but this book flips it and tells the stories of these turbulent times from the vantage point of the pioneering Asian leaders like Tagore, Al Afghani, Kang Youwei etc. Lovers of Asian history would surely appreciate this book

Does your WLB improve after you make partner but stress levels increase since you are responding for revenue and for people. But in terms of delivery it’s the M/SM/D handling the work and the long hours?
Is that an unfair assessment? Is it a false goal to aspire to to become a partner?

I feel my SM takes credit for my work and never mentions some of the work that I am doing to the leadership, I also feel he is not very comfortable when I directly interact with the partner continued.
