How do you calculate two weeks notice, is it 2 calendar weeks from the day you give notice or two work weeks? How would you factor in a holiday (like Memorial Day)?

Two weeks notice is a courtesy. It's at will employment. Do whatever works for you.

like

No one is burning any bridges if the two weeks notice is, in reality, 12 or 13 days, etc. It’s fine to give notice on a Monday or Tuesday for the Friday after next, etc.

I counted 14 calendar days from the day I gave notice (and included the same day since I gave notice in the morning). Not sure if that’s right but I was psyched to leave

like

I did a normal 14 days, but also as a courtesy told my job to let me know if they needed a few extra days. Ultimately it's about communication and making sure your cases/work is in a place people can easily access.

Should I move to Amazon? Currently in-house with a mid-sized tech startup in LA; 7 YOE, 200k TC. While my management definitely has flaws, my bosses are kind people, I learn from them, and I have good WLB (45-ish hours a week, 3-ish weeks of vacation, great flexibility and autonomy with these things). Have an offer from Amazon at the same level (Counsel) with comp around 320, but I understand WLB is generally poor for lawyers. I was miserable in BigLaw before going in house, and (cont’d)

If you work through a vacation planned in advance from your vacation hotel room, can you expense this to the job WBS? Wouldn’t have incurred $XXX/night if it meant just working from somewhere else.

Which Job Offer Would You Pick? I’m fortunate enough to have recently received 2 job offers. Which would you pick based on the following information?:

Job Offer 1 - Salary: 10,000 more per year than Job Offer 2, less PTO than Job Offer 2, better work place culture

Job Offer 2 - Salary: 10,000 less per year than Job Offer 1, more PTO than Job Offer 1, better benefits than Job Offer 1

Job duties are comparable. Feel free to ask questions to help you decide! Thanks for weighing in!

How much should I charge a friend to watch 4 dogs at their home over Christmas weekend (2 nights)? The dogs don't have any special needs or medications. I've dog sat for other people in the past but always for free. I also have had dogs of my own for most of my life. I want to start charging people for my services but also want to be reasonable since this is a friend and don't plan to charge a holiday fee. We live in St. Louis. Would $40 per day/night be reasonable?

How often do you take vacation? Once a month? One week every couple of months? Never?

Anyone else seriously exhausted by the holiday season? With work, cleaning & decorating, making travel plans and shopping for presents I just feel run down and tired and we're not even close to Christmas yet. My husband tries his best but I feel like so much of the holiday season falls on women's shoulders to handle. Am I wrong?

Is it unethical as realtors working in an office to block chunks of time off for personal reasons? Some of my coworkers stay in their desks for up to 10 hours, but I've taken up the habit of blocking at least 1 hour daily for lunch, breaks, and other issues that may arise. Do you do this as well or do you prefer to work straight through your day?

Quit my job and it felt so good, my Manager was an extraordinarily nasty person! Wondering if I should give HR the real feedback at the exit interview or just pretend everything is okay and move on. Thoughts? Manager has no empathy, has a clique within the team and openly plays favourite within the team. Example with flexible holiday her favourites can take 30 days a year but others like me are not allowed above 15 days. Will it make a difference telling HR for the sake of others in the future?

Would you sell your PTO for extra $$$

For context, company announced that if we want to work through scheduled PTO this year. Will get 120% of your usual hourly pay ( on top of your salary). I’m selling back 80 hours. Allows me to catch up on a lot of work, get that extra bonus, and increase my yearly overall bonus because company will have a higher ebitda.

I hate the holidays anyways, so win win.

I've always been asked why I found a "proper" job at my 30s and wasted my years in unrelated jobs like call centers and inhouse calls for installing Windows.

I can't seem to make them understand that in 2008, it was impossible to find an IT job in Greece as a woman. I had certifications and knowledge but I couldn't even get a callback. I would send the same CV as a man, and they would call immediately.

Now things are different but still this question comes up and I'm struggling to answer it.
